One of a kind, functional stoneware ceramics
My name is Alice and I am a ceramicist based in Brighton. I make functional stoneware ceramics such as planters, incense holders, soap dishes and mugs, on my pottery wheel from my shared studio on Brighton seafront.
I graduated with a bachelors in Fine Art in 2015 and after creating video installations for the duration of my course, I missed making physically with my hands. I moved to Brighton and took a short pottery course where I learnt the basics of hand building and then throwing. I decided I wanted to pursue ceramics and began looking for a studio space. I was lucky enough to find my studio, shared with lots of lovely artists, I bought a second hand wheel from a friend and have been creating ever since. I started putting more time and effort into my business during lockdown and I have loved being able to make art and experiment during this time.
My aim is to make pieces that are functional, useful and can fit into people’s lives but can also be treasured and feel special in their hands and home.
I have always found myself inspired by nature and wanting to explore and represent that in my work and so I’ve developed a small range of pieces inspired by the sky and sea. My work often has an organic feel. I love creating tiny worlds within my glazes, often mimicking pink sunsets and stormy seas.
I will always consider myself a student of ceramics but I love having the opportunity to make things with my hands and turn a lump of mud into something special.
