Silver & enamel jewellery inspired by nature and simple forms.
Katie Johnston is a jewellery designer and maker based in Bristol who makes silver and enamel jewellery. Nature and simple forms influence her designs and she uses the techniques and processes of enamelling to make her jewellery.
Katie’s designs often starts with an idea followed by a rough sketch, but usually most of the designing is done on the work bench – she’s happy to let the pieces develop in the experimental making process.
Her most recent work uses the technique sgraffito, (in Italian “to scratch”). The technique is produced by applying layers of different colour enamels to copper and then scratching off parts of the layers to create patterns and reveal the colour of the enamel underneath.
