Say Hello to… Angela Chick

EventsNo commentsApril 16, 2018Claire

Today we’re excited to welcome back Angela Chick. We’re really looking forward to having her again and you can meet her at our fair on Saturday May 12th at Brighton Open Market.

Please introduce yourself and your brand….

I’m Angela Chick, the illustrator, designer and everything else behind all the fun at Angela Chick. I pride myself on creating playfully illustrated greeting cards and gifts for [almost] all occasions.

How would you describe your style and your creations?

I have a very playful illustration style. My aim is to create bright, bold, stand out designs that feature fresh takes on the everyday. Strong levels of empathy along with themes of fun and friendship feature in my designs. I want my cards to help pick up where others leave off. I want them to go a step further. I want them to help find the words that are on the tip of your tongue or in the back of your mind. They will warm your heart and they will pull on your heartstrings. They are going to bring a smile to your face. They are something special.

What do you enjoy most about your work?

Everything. I love getting to be my own boss and organise my days how I like. I don’t get the opportunity to get bored as I’m always learning. I’ve gained a lot more confidence in my work lately as well which really helps. I really enjoy making cards for occasions that I’ve tried to find in the past and not managed. It’s even more rewarding when customers tell me that I’ve made EXACTLY what they wanted or were looking for. I love the freedom to design what I want and have it work. It’s a really great job!

What can we expect to find on your stall at The Fairy Tale Fair Fringe Festival Special on Saturday 12th May at Brighton Open Market? And are you looking forward to taking part?

I’m looking forward to returning to Brighton for The Fairy Tale Fair in May. I’ll have lots of my greeting cards for all occasions with me, as well as many “just because” cards. I’ll also have lots of fun pins and stationery items. Be sure to pop by! I moved out of Brighton a few years ago and it’s always so lovely to get back there. I miss it!

Do you have a best seller?

Definitely got to be my Diamond Heart Friendship Pin – it’s an irresistible gift for friends to give each other. The cards from my Angela Always and Birthday collections are always flying off the shelves as well. I’ve got a pile of new designs for this year that I’m really excited about sharing!

Do you have any plans or ambitions for the future?

I’m always setting new goals for myself, both in business, and in my personal life. Is being a goal-aholic a thing? I get a bit excited about ticking off projects on the way to reaching my goals even if I’m always stretching beyond them. I spent a long time not taking the time to step back and appreciate the accomplishments I was making, so I make sure to do that more often now. It’s fine that I continually move the goal posts, just as long as I’m celebrating those milestones that seemed so hard to reach before.

Do you have a motto or inspirational quote?

“Work hard. Be good. Have fun.” My dad used to tell me this every time I went out the door for school and it stuck with me. I remind myself of it often. I don’t believe much in luck and I know that to get to where I am with my business, being able to be my own boss, wouldn’t have been possible had I not put the work in. I work hard, really hard. Equally, I also make sure to make time to relax and recharge.

How can we find out more about you?
