Here’s some process photos of the making of our Christmas poster and flyer design.
We commissioned local illustrator and stall holder Vicky Scott of Vicky’s World to bring our idea to life and we are delighted with the result. The illustration was created in paper collage by hand and you can see Vicky’s work in progress and thoughts below…
“I was delighted to be asked to design the poster for the Fairy Tale Fair this Xmas. It was a really lovely brief to receive as I love drawing animals and making hand drawn type and a pretty detailed brief too with all the different elements The Fairy Tale Fair wanted in their poster. That said I did make the fairy into a fairy penguin and the fox pounce at the cake, always good to have fun with a brief too!
To start with I drew out a rough pencil sketch of the piece, the deer, with fairy lights in its antlers, a fox, cupcakes, robin and lots more Christmassy crafts besides!
Once I was happy with the rough I came up with a quick colour mock up so Claire knew what to expect from the final (and to help guide me in my collage making).
I then traced the pencil sketch onto tracing paper and started cutting out the different pieces with a very sharp scalpel and my trusty cutting mat. (This stage took a while as with a detailed collage comes lots of little pieces of paper!)
I assembled all the cut out pieces as a paper cut collage and stuck them down (temporarily) with blu-tack, before scanning the piece into Photoshop and added in any final details (and moved the eyes I was going cross-eyed myself just trying to work out what to do with those eyes!)”
And here is the final result! We hope you all like it. A big thanks to Vicky for making it wonderful.
