Today we’re pleased to chat to Jess Hislop and find out more about her latest designs and inspirations behind them…
Please introduce yourself and your brand….
Hi I am Jess, and I make quirky and colourful prints, cards, and wrapping paper!
How would you describe your style and your products?
I think my style is a what I would call Brighton Quirky…it’s that cool place between cute and rock and roll! I love making things that are super colourful and just a little bit different… it’s probably the nice way of saying I think my style is a bit random.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
I love drawing it’s something I do pretty much all the time – so being able to just decide that I want to draw a dog on rollerblades (total spoilers for something I am working on currently) or cats dressed up in fancy outfits, or even something completely different I just love being able to draw what I feel and apparently people really like it and are lovely enough to buy it!
Do you have a best seller or favourite to make?
My current favourite make is my cat wrapping paper which is set to go live in my shop very soon but this changes all the time! My bestseller has been my personalised prints (people can pick their favourite things and I then make a super unique print for them) they have gone down a treat!
What are your plans or ambitions for the future?
I’ve just gone fully freelance/full time small business owner so I’m really excited to try and grow my range a bit more coherently – I intend to look into other stationary options I can offer like notebooks, stickers and magnets and maybe one day I would love to get my stuff in a real-life shop!
Sum up your brand in 3 words…
Quirky, colourful and fun! (I almost said rainbow goth but that’s probably more me than my brand)
Do you have a motto or favourite quote for inspiration?
Probably not in normal life … I’ve been walking around just going it’ll all be fine in a slightly high pitched and panicked mantra does that count…
