Today we meet Vicky of Vickysworld. She is a local illustrator and is the talented behind our Christmas 2016 and Easter 2017 poster and flyer designs. She creates all the designs by hand in paper collage and we just love their character and colour! Find out more about her…
Please introduce yourself and your brand….
Hello I’m Vicky Scott (or Vickysworld) and I’m a collage making illustrator from London who now lives in Brighton. I like bright colours, swimming, cakes, animals (particularly my 2 cats) , 60’s psychedelia and Art Deco, which I think comes across in my designs. My brand is basically my illustrations turned into paper products such as greeting cards, gift wrap and prints.
How would you describe your style and your creations?
Colourful, retro inspired, playful illustrations with a story to tell. And that generally start life as a paper collage. Oh and everything I draw does tend to have an animal in it somewhere- I can’t help it!
What do you enjoy most about your work?
Really tricky to pick just one thing! I love the excitement of seeing one of my ideas come to life and then I can’t wait to see it finished! I also enjoy hearing from a client or customer that they are really pleased with one of my designs too it does make your day when you get nice feedback.
What can we expect to find on your stall at The Fairy Tale Fair Easter Special at Patcham Methodist on April 1st? And are you looking forward to taking part?
Lots of Spring cards (like the flyer for the air) and some new gift wrap designs too (featuring birds of paradise, cats and owls!) It’s in my local area so always nice to do something that makes you feel part of your new home! This time I want to get to the cakes before they sell out too
Do you have a best seller?
It used to be Flight of Fancy, Tree of Love as a card or print but it’s now become so varied! Since creating Brighton in Bloom this has been really popular, people love the Pavilion and it’s a great card for so many occasions!
Do you have any plans or ambitions for the future?
Definitely! I’m currently working on a map of Brighton piece that I want to show in May’s Artists Open Houses. See my progress on Instagram. I also love doing projects for charity as it’s great to give back every so often.
Do you have a motto or inspirational quote?
Not really but Blackadder is pretty good for those (particularly the episode featuring the wise woman, who firstly is a woman and secondly is wise!)
What part of Easter do you enjoy the most?
I love all the spring flowers at the moment (Daffodils, tulips, crocuses) in my garden. But the chocolate is a close second!
How can we find out more about you?
