Say Hello to… Baked Memes

Brighton, craft, JewelleryNo commentsOctober 6, 2014FTFadmin

In the first of our stall holder interviews we speak to Fairy Tale Fair newbie Kelly of Baked Memes, she will be taking part in our Open Market fair on November 23rd and we can’t wait to meet her!

Please introduce yourself and your brand & tell us a bit about your creations and how you make them….

Hello, I’m Kelly and I’m the designer/maker of Baked Memes in Brighton. I sell handmade shrink plastic jewellery baked in the oven to create my favourite memes! Memes (pronounced ‘meems’) is “an idea, behaviour, or style that spreads from person to person within a culture.”

I like to make images that are brightly-coloured and eye-catching with themes of animals and nature; vintage art and the victorian era; pop culture; and cult tv/films. Some of these images I do myself, others I source from vintage reference books or scrap graphic collections.

How long have you been making your creations?

I have been working with shrink plastic since February this year but have been making jewellery for fun for 6 years now.

Do you have a best seller or most popular item?

My most popular category of items is the Disney inspired ‘Up’ collection consisting of a necklace, earrings, a brooch and a keyring.

What do you enjoy most about your craft/ work?

The thing I enjoy most is creating something that other people also enjoy, I get a real buzz when I get positive feedback from someone telling me how much they loved it. I like the fact that I make things that no-one else in the world does. I also enjoy being creative and being able to escape into my world of birds, butterflies and flying houses!

Will you be selling some festive themed creations at The Fairy Tale Fair?

I absolutely love Christmas and I am working with the nature element of Autumn and Winter such as the animals that you see come out from hibernation or migration such as deer and robins; along with the colour themes of warm reds and browns as well as cool hues of blue.

What are your plans or ambitions for the future, or have you already achieved them?

I just absolutely love making things and as long as I’m doing that, I’m happy.

Describe what Christmas means to you in 5 words or less!:

Walking in a winter wonderland…
