We’re pleased to introduce Inky Kat today, who we look forward to welcoming at both our Patcham and Worthing fairs this month. Find out more about her…
Please introduce yourself and your brand….
Hi I’m Kat. I’m a printmaker living in the West Sussex countryside just outside of Brighton. I have a Degree in Fine Art and have been working as an artist on and off for the last 20 years. I set up Inky Kat Studio in the summer of 2017. I create bright and colourful screen prints on fabric. My subject matter varies from animals and birds to inspirational quotes. I often work to commission, mainly creating pet portraits.
How would you describe your style and your creations?
My style is fairly clean and simple possibly due to the fact that I use papercuts as my templates. I started printing on fabric about 3 years ago and loved it as it allows me to use some of the lovely printed cotton fabric available. This can add extra colour and texture to my work. Due to the nature of the printing process every print is individual and I’m only able to print a certain number of prints from each papercut before it starts to degrade.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
I enjoy the whole creative process of my work from the initial drawing stage to producing the papercut. I think though my favourite part is revealing the first screen print as you can never be entirely sure as to how it’ll turn out!
What can we expect to find on your stall at The Fairy Tale Fair Easter Special in aid of St Barnabas at Worthing Charmandean on Saturday 17th March? And are you looking forward to taking part?
I’m really looking forward to taking part in The Fairy Tale Fair. It’ll be great to be part of the vibrant atmosphere and meet the other traders and customers after the quiet of January and February. I’ll be selling my prints and also greeting cards, some of which aren’t yet available my etsy shop. My prices are also always lower at Fairs which is always a bonus!
Do you have a best seller?
My cuddling kittens prints are always popular as I think they resonate with fellow cat owners. Also my fluorescent flamingo love print is another popular one.
Do you have any plans or ambitions for the future?
I have so many ideas floating around my head for new prints and future plans but one goal is to get my prints and cards stocked locally in and around Brighton this year.
Do you have a motto or inspirational quote?
I always like an inspirational quote but unfortunately I never remember any!! Apart from the ones I print 😉
What part of Easter do you enjoy the most?
Hopefully the beginning of some warmer weather! It’s also my youngests birthday around Easter time 🙂
