Say Hello to… Lottie Leo

Brighton, craft, Cute, Fairy Tale, Hand Crafted2 commentsOctober 27, 2014Claire

Today we welcome back Lisa of Lottie Leo and her wonderful needle felted animals! She’ll be joining us at our Brighton Open Market Christmas fair on Sunday 23rd November…

Hi there, I’m Lisa, the creator of needle felted animals and the owner of my online shop- Lottie•Leo!

Lottie•Leo began when I was working in a sweet little gift shop in Hove. When the shop was quiet I used to draw and doodle in my notebook. One day I drew a little cartoon of a boy and girl and I called them Lottie and Leo! I drew more and more illustrations of Lottie and Leo and put them on to cards to sell in the gift shop. The name just stuck!

I discovered needle felting in 2012 and it has been a passion of mine ever since.

I began making needle felted animals in 2013 and the first time I ever sold them was actually at the Fairytale Fair in August 2013!

I make small needle felted ornaments and decorations. The majority of my custom orders are for ornaments. These are usually little mice or rabbits that are created to fit each individual customer’s ideas and requests. They are made from quality and cruelty free wool.

Needle felting is the process of bringing the wool fibers together with a felting needle to create a specific shape.

My ornaments are sculpted on a wire so they can stand up by themselves and can be moved in to different positions. I make little props and clothes for them out of felt, clay, wood, plastic or whatever I can get creative with really!

The best bit of my work is seeing these little characters come to life as I needle felt. Each one has a different face and different clothes and a different character! I love it!

So what’s next for Lottie•Leo?  Well I have so many ideas my brain could burst! I am just so pleased with how it has grown in one year and I want to continue down this road. I am just about to launch my new website and I am planning to teach needle felting workshops in Sussex next year, so keep checking in!

Christmas is my absolute favorite time of year and, as the Fairytale Fair will be at the end of November, I will be getting fabulously festive and selling Christmas decorations, Christmas gifts and I may even wear my Christmas jumper!!
