Say Hello to… Les Mistons

Brighton, FashionNo commentsOctober 12, 2015Claire

Today on the blog we welcome Les Mistons who will be joining us for the first time on October 25th at Brighton Open Market. Find out more about them and their vintage children’s clothing…

Please introduce yourself and your brand….

We are Anna & Pelin , respectively from France and Turkey but living in Brighton for a few years now where we had our babies at the same time.

We created Les Mistons a few months ago, in a bid to share the wonderful vintage pieces we had the pleasure to come across.

Les Mistons offers a selection of vintage children’s clothes selected with great care.
For the anecdote, Les Mistons is a kind of slang word in French meaning « kiddos » and it’s also François Truffaut’s first short movie title ( big fans here !).

How would you describe your style and your creations?

All our pieces have been produced in the 50s, 60s and 70s (mostly Made in France but also British Made) and many of them still have their original tag attached. We offer baby, girls and boys vintage shoes and clothes up to size 10 years. Most of the clothes are what we call « new old stock (vintage but new and unworn) and some are also preloved.

They come from auctions, old factories, sample lots or individuals who kept those gems hidden in an attic for decades. Finding them really feel like a treasure hunt!
We select the pieces which are in great condition only, and also gently launder if needed : we are mums too and we want the clothes to be beautiful and easy to wear.

What do you enjoy most about your work?

Coming across all these amazing pieces from the past is a great feeling.
We can appreciate the great designs and patterns, the gorgeous cuts and are always stunned by the quality of the craftsmanship of these eras . We can’t find any equivalent in today’s children’s clothes production.
Becoming mums has toughened our will of transmission from the past and this is a great example of it.

Nothing please us more than receiving pictures of cute babies, boys and girls wearing a 60 year-old dress or pair of shoes !

What can we expect to find on your stall at The Fairy Tale Fair Brighton this October? And are you looking forward to taking part?

We are very excited to take part to the Fairy Tale Fair, actually it will be our first Fair ever !
We will bring loads and loads of vintage pieces, for boys and girls, dresses, trousers, cute dungarees, amazing coats, winter hats and a great stock of unworn shoes available in many sizes.

Do you have any plans or ambitions for the future?

We would love to open a pop up shop in Brighton, maybe a « real » shop soon too !
In the future we dream about creating our own brand of children’s clothing, proudly made in UK and inspired by all the wonderful designs and shapes we get to see through our stock everyday. Unfortunately vintage stock won’t last forever ! (and that’s a good reason to grab a piece of history while we still can! ).

Do you have a motto or inspirational quote?

« Every child is an artist, the problem is how to remain an artist when you grow up » Pablo Picasso.

We’re always very happy to get messages at hello@les-mistons.com
