Say Hello to… Nahina lingerie and loungewear

Brighton, Fashion, Hand CraftedNo commentsNovember 22, 2014Claire

Please introduce yourself and your brand…..

Hello I’m Nikki and I design and make all of the pieces for my brand Nahina lingerie and loungewear. My focus at the moment is on soft bralettes, lingerie sets and I also make a lot of high waisted knickers. My aim is to create pieces that are elegant and beautiful as well as being comfy and easy to wear.

Tell us a bit about your creations and how you make them….

I work from my home studio in Brighton. Most of my designs begin with a style design, which I will sketch out until I’m happy with and then I will source the right materials for the piece. At first I will make a prototype to my own size and wear it around for a day or two to see how it fits and see how it feels live in! Once I’m happy, I may make adjustments and then develop the pattern into all different sizes for my shop.

How long have you been making your creations?

My collection is something I have had in my mind for several years but I only started to work on seriously at the start of this year. I opened my Etsy shop in May and have been working hard on it since then!

Do you have a best seller or most popular item?

Coming into winter, my best seller has to be the black velvet lingerie set. (www.etsy.com/listing/190571619/black-velvet-lingerie-set-soft-bra) It’s so incredibly soft and comfy, I wear it all of the time! The fabric is slightly heavier and warmer for the cold months but it still feels luxurious and sexy.

What do you enjoy most about your craft/ work?

I love working with such beautiful, delicate fabrics- lace, velvet, mesh. I have always had an eye for detail too, so I enjoy working precisely on small pieces. I feel so grateful to be able to spend my time creating things, with my hands- it’s very meditative. And to see an idea develop through to a final item that people enjoy is very satisfying.

Will you be selling some festive themed creations at The Fairy Tale Fair?

I will be selling mostly knickers at the fair, as well as PJ shorts, soft bras and a few lingerie sets. All of these I think make great gifts or stocking fillers. I will have some Christmas gift boxes and packaging that will look very pretty under the tree.

What are your plans or ambitions for the future, or have you already achieved them?

I look forward to developing new products and styling some fresh photo shoots for the new year. I’m also excited about designing a Valentines Day collection and doing a shoot for that. I’d really like to start using some silk fabrics. Oh and I’d also like to marble some fabrics- so many ideas! I just hope to get some of them out there!
