Today we meet Owl and Otter, who make fab, unique laser cut gifts! Find out more…
Tell us a bit about you and what you do/ make….
The Owl & Otter is based in the lovely seaside town of Brighton and we make beautiful gifts and household items. I design each product and then the finished design is sent to be cut out with a fancy laser. After the laser has finished its magic, we finish the items by hand and then hey presto, you have a beautiful gift!
How would you describe your style?
I love a lot of different styles and materials, I always try to keep the style of the Owl & Otter simple. If I had to describe in one term, I would say it was cottage chic. I always want to create products which are beautiful, cosy and something that I would want in my own home to make me smile.
How long have you been making your craft items?
I’ve been designing products for a couple of years but I created the Owl & Otter in 2012. Its been fantastic fun and I find it incredibly rewarding sending a product to a new home.
Do you have a best seller? If so what is it?
My most popular item has been our Jewellery Tree. The gorgeous tree is ideal for hanging small pieces of jewellery or as a simple household decoration. The swirls and curves of the branches create a lovely Autumn feel and a lovely home for our two little birds. Its my favourite item and I have one sitting on my dressing table!
What do you enjoy most about your craft?
Its difficult to say, but what I must enjoy is packaging a finished product and sending it to a new home.
Do you take part in other craft events (fairs, open houses, markets etc…)?
This year we’ve taken part in a few craft fairs but I want cannot wait until the new year to attend more. We had a great time at the Fairy Tale Fair in August and we are very excited to have a display for Christmas!
What items and festive gifts will you be selling at The Fairy Tale Fair?
We have a wide range of products on sale at the Fairy Tale Fair. We will be selling snowflake coasters, jewellery trees, vintage inspired gift tags, word art and so much more.
What are your plans/ ambitions for the future? Or have you already achieved them?
I have lots of plans for the Owl & Otter. I’m currently working on a brand new website for the Owl & Otter, which I hope to have live next year. I love offer a bespoke service and this is an area I hope to expand. I love working with new materials and in the new year I will be working with brass, copper and bamboo, which is very exciting.
