Today we welcome back Fliss from Show Me Shiny Things, who will be in charge of a bead jewellery workshop for us- which was very popular at our spring fair! Find out more about her…
“I really loved the last fair, it was an excellent day. The hall looked great with the decorations, live music playing and all the beautiful handmade goodies to buy.” – Fliss, Show Me Shiny Things
Please introduce yourself and remind what you create…
Hi, I’m Fliss, maker of show me shiny things – jewellery. I use silver, glass and ceramic, in a range of beads and charms. My jewellery is modern, bright and, well, shiny! I will be bringing to the fair necklaces, bracelets, earrings and safety pin style brooches.
How long have you been making your creations and how did you get into it?
This is my first year of making jewellery, although I have enjoyed bead work since GCSE textiles. Fortunately, my magpie collecting habits meant that I had quite a collection of beads when I started making bracelets in 2012. A friend gave me a bracelet she had made and I thought I would have a go (so big thanks to her!)
What do you enjoy most about your craft?
The best thing about making jewellery is seeing people wearing and enjoying something that I have made. Excellent feeling! Also, it does give me an excuse to collect lots and lots of shiny things…!
You will be taking part in a craft workshop at The Fairy Tale Fair- what will yours involve?
My workshop will be making wrap-around beaded bracelets. I’ve added to my collection of beads since the last fair so there will be lots to select from. I will have some of my bracelets there for ideas, although last time there was no shortage of creative designs!
You took part in our Spring Fairy Tale Fair- did you enjoy it?
I really loved the last fair, it was an excellent day. The hall looked great with the decorations, live music playing and all the beautiful handmade goodies to buy. Not to mention the cakes..! It was great fun holding the workshop and I’m really looking forward to doing it again this time.
