Today we welcome another new seller to The Fairy Tale Fair, Clare of The Chintzy Teacup. Find out more about her…
“I love unabashed vintage glamour mixed with the bright, modern and practical.”– Clare, The Chintzy Teacup.
Tell us a bit about you and what you do/ make….
I make teacup candles from vintage crockery sourced from Sussex (and occasionally) Cornwall. The wax is melted, scented and dyed and then hand poured. The perfume oils I use are Violet, Lavender, Gardenia, Rose or Honeysuckle.
All my candles will make your home smell divine. I wrap each candle in a gold or silver box making it the perfect present or gift to self! I sell them for £7 each or £12 for two and this includes the wrapping. I also make candles to order and can provide large orders for use as centrepieces or favours for guests at weddings, christening or any kind of celebration where you want to make a beautiful vintage statement.
My main job is that I am a mum of two young boisterous boys who never stop moving, thinking and talking, but I also work part time in television as a lawyer.
How would you describe your style?
I love unabashed vintage glamour mixed with the bright, modern and practical.
How long have you been making your craft items?
Since I moved to East Sussex a year ago.
Do you have a best seller? If so what is it?
My stock changes constantly and people always surprise me as to the candle they fall in love with.
What do you enjoy most about your craft?
Each stage brings its own enjoyment. I love sourcing the crockery and get a genuine thrill when I spy an unloved tea set for sale! Then matching the candle scent and dye with the design of the cup, no one wants a beautiful cup ruined by a garish candle and it’s extremely satisfying when I get the colors just right. Equally I have loved the act of selling them and getting customer feedback about where they are going to put their candle or who they are going to give it to and why.
Do you take part in other craft events (fairs, open houses, markets etc…)?
I sold the candles at various Christmas fairs in and around Brighton in 2012 with great success.
What items and Mother’s day/ Easter gifts will you be selling at The Fairy Tale Fair?
My candles will make absolutely perfect mother’s day gifts.
What are your plans/ ambitions for the future? Or have you already achieved them?
I dabble in collage and decoupage so I would love to develop this in the future using vintage paper and magazines. I’ll also be setting up an Etsy site soon.
