Today in the last of our summer stall holder interviews we welcome Lucy of Wild Whiskers. We met her a few weeks back at a Brighton Etsy meeting. We fell in love with her cute illustrated designed and we’re excited to have her for the first time this Saturday August 15th at Brighton Open Market – pop along to meet her in person!
Please introduce yourself and your brand….
Hi everyone, I’m Lucy and I am the owner of Wild Whiskers. Wild Whiskers offers hand-printed, hand-made Homewares and Accessories featuring my paintings of Furry Creatures, Flora and Fauna.
I studied Textile Design at Central Saint Martins, which was totally inspiring and taught me all I know about printing fabrics. I now use digital printing to print all sorts of lovely gift and all of my products are made with heaps of love and care.
How would you describe your style and your creations?
I love nature and I want Wild Whiskers to reflect that. My ambition is to create images, which are fun and quirky but also beautiful and delicate. Customers seem to fall in love with the creatures and it often resonates with people who have pets who tell me “that looks just like my cat, hamster etc.!”
What do you enjoy most about your work?
I absolutely love to paint, especially animals. I particularly adore painting animals, layering the paint to get a sense of their big round eyes and dense, wispy fur. I also really enjoy using Photoshop to turn my paintings into repeat deigns and patterns.
It’s so fun meeting so many lovely customers at fairs; we usually end up talking for hours about our pets!
What can we expect to find on your stall at The Fairy Tale Fair Brighton this Summer? And are you looking forward to taking part?
I love Brighton and can’t wait to take part in the Fairy Tale Fair. I’m looking forward to buying some goodies myself from the other sellers!
Were going to bring some lovely hand-printed Bone China mugs, iPhone cases, some cushions and great selection of greeting cards. Oh, and some very sparkly organic Crystal Druzy necklaces!
Do you have any plans or ambitions for the future?
We have lots of new and exciting ideas for future products, which we cant wait to create. Were going to improve the products we already have by experimenting with different methods of printing on more luxurious fabrics such as Velvet and Linen. We hope to create a larger selection of Homewares including printed wallpapers and fabric by the roll. At the moment we are doing some designs for some beautiful silk scarves covered in animals, which we can’t wait to show you!
