Today we chat to Emma of Wilful Ink for the first time who joins us on Sunday 14th April at Worthing Charmandean. Find out more about her ahead of the day…
Hi, I’m Emma, the woman behind Wilful Ink.
I’m an illustrator with a focus on luxury wallpaper and interior accessories.
My style is maximalist botanical / zoological. My signature technique is to find weird animals and paint them in eye scorching deep and vibrant colours
I absolutely love hand drawing and painting my illustrations.
I use ink and watercolours in deep, saturated colours.
Choosing subjects to draw is fun, but time consuming. If I’m not careful I can spend way too much time flicking through natural history books before I am ready to actually draw.
I have been hoping to do the Fairytale Fair for about 2 years so I am really excited to finally be attending.
I will be bringing a selection of my illustrated home accessories such as tea towels, oven gloves and velvet cushions along with art prints and cards.
If you like strange and unusual animals and plants then you must come and say hi!
I will have designs featuring carnivorous plants, exotic birds and creatures you may never have seen before. (Pinocchio lizard anyone?)
I’ll also be bringing my ‘Deep Sea’ oven gloves and make up bags which sold out really quickly when I launched them.
Luckily they will be back in stock just in time for the Fairytale Fair.
In addition to this and my famous Octopus design I will be launching some new ‘Rainforest’ products that will donate 10% of profits to Rainforest Trust. I always bring a few bits along that aren’t on the website so you might find a unique treasure.
I hope to keep learning and growing as an artist. I am always working to improve my illustrations. There is no end point for this ambition, I want to be learning all my life.
As Maya Angelou said ‘You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.’
I have 2 children that will be popping along to enjoy the fair. They are 5 and 2 and always get way too many Easter eggs from their grandparents. Luckily I am on hand to save them from too much chocolate…
