Today we’re pleased to introduce Hannah Kate Makes, who you may have met through our online fairs last autumn and Christmas. Find out a bit more about her and her new products…
Please introduce yourself and your brand….
Hello there!
I’m Hannah, ex-forensic scientist and the Chaos Pixie behind Hannah Kate Makes. I’m a self-taught artist creating fantasy inspired work that helps you escape reality. I work in acrylics, watercolour, pencils and digital.
My ideas are sparked by fantasy, folklore, erotica, mythology, magic, sci-fi, legends and fairy tales, horror… You name it, if it’s a cool idea that captures my imagination and can whisk us away from reality, I’m in.
How would you describe your style and your products?
I paint things that don’t exist in the real world. My designs are a mix of fantasy surrealism and imaginative realism.
As well as decorating your home with my original art and prints, you can also grab my designs as stickers, stationery, and wooden pin badges. Meaning you can take a little bit of magic with you wherever you go!
What do you enjoy most about your work?
I love getting lost in a painting, it’s almost meditative. Hours fly by and the personalities of the characters and creatures emerge as they appear on the page.
Do you have a best seller or favourite to make?
Commissions are always my favourite! I love to paint and draw art for you to give as the perfect gift, or as a way of helping you express your inner self. It’s great fun to work with a client and tease an idea from their imagination and bring it to life on canvas.
What are your plans or ambitions for the future?
I’d love to exhibit my work in solo exhibitions. One day I dream of building my own studio to encompass my whimsical world, allowing others to step into it as well.
Sum up your brand in 3 words…
Whimsical. Curious. Fantasy.
Do you have a motto or favourite quote for inspiration?
“Make good art”. It’s the final line from Neil Gaiman’s 2012 keynote address for the Commencement Ceremony at The University of the Arts. Whenever I feel lost or have art block I listen back to this speech and I highly recommend it as something for everyone to listen to. (It’s easily found on YouTube).
