Today we welcome Arian Silver Designs for the first time, who you can meet at our fair at Worthing Charmandean on 14th April.
Please introduce yourself and your brand….
My name is Alison Crowe and I hand-make silver jewellery at my own studio in West Sussex using traditional silversmithing skills, including forging, wire-work, hand-piercing and texturing using etching and heat processes. As I love colour, I also like to incorporate gemstones in my work. I have been making jewellery for the past ten years and it has become my full-time job – the best job I’ve ever had!
How would you describe your style and your creations?
I draw my inspiration from the forms and details found in nature, adding my own contemporary, minimalist twist. My aim is to create unique, versatile and wearable pieces that will stand the test of time in terms of craftsmanship and fashion. Items are hallmarked for quality, with my own unique makers mark by the London Assay Office.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
I adore working with silver as it’s such a versatile and beautiful metal which provides endless creative possibilities. I especially love to work with clients on commissions. Sometimes I provide a lot of design input, other times the client already has a very clear idea about what they want. Either way, producing pieces that delight and become cherished possessions gives me a real buzz!
What can we expect to find on your stall at The Fairy Tale Fair Easter Special in aid of St Barnabas at Worthing Charmandean on Sunday 14th April? And are you looking forward to taking part?
I will be presenting a full range of my earrings, pendants, necklaces and rings at the Fairy Tale Fair. I’m really looking forward to taking part – meeting other local makers and of course potential customers! I think St Barnabas is a fantastic local charity and I have fundraised for them in the past – I am very happy to be supporting one of their events.
Do you have a best seller?
My best seller is undoubtedly my wave bangle. They are a very minimalist design and elegantly complement any outfit beautifully. I often sell two or three at a time as they look so great worn in twos and threes. I’d really like some for myself but I just keep selling them!
Do you have any plans or ambitions for the future?
I am always looking for ways to expand my knowledge and techniques, so am planning to take some specialist courses, including enamelling on silver this year.
I want to expand the sale of my work through local galleries and at craft fairs and I’m also currently working towards selling my work via my website which I hope to have up and running later this year.
Do you have a motto or inspirational quote?
Yes, I truly believe this:
“By doing what you love, you inspire and awaken the hearts of others.”
What part of Easter do you enjoy the most?
This is my favourite time of year because signs of spring are everywhere. I especially love to see the changes in nature here in the beautiful Sussex countryside. I’m looking forward to visiting a local farm to bottle-feed new born lambs and going for long country walks. Oh, and I do love chocolate so will be enjoying at least one Easter egg!
