Say Hello to… Chris Millard

Please introduce yourself and your brand….

I’m Chris Millard & I’m an illustrator based in Brighton.

How would you describe your style and your creations?

I’d describe my style as traditional with a pop. My illustrations are created using fine liners and watercolours with gives them a classic feel but the coloured backgrounds bring a modern, playfulness to them. It’s been exciting to start expanding the range and experimenting with the different products they work on and how to make each one unique.

What do you enjoy most about your work?

Just being able to create, draw, paint and lose myself in my work. There is no better feeling than stepping back and looking at what you’ve created after hours of being absorbed in the moment.

What can we expect to find on your stall at The Fairy Tale Fair Christmas Special at Brighton Open Market this November? And are you looking forward to taking part?

A range of prints, mugs, cushions and greetings cards featuring my animal illustrations.

It will also be the first event where I will be selling my new Christmas card designs which feature 10 scenes of a penguin family Christmas. I originally set out to just design 5 but got a bit carried away in the moment.

Do you have a best seller?

The flamingo has been very popular on prints & cushions as has my pheasant illustration on its mustard backdrop. I’ve also recently begun taking orders for my illustrations on a custom colour background which has been popular.

Do you have any plans or ambitions for the future?

100’s, it’s just getting round to doing them!

I genuinely do have lots of projects and new ideas all dotted around my workspace I’m just itching to get completed, including a couple of exciting collaborations with other artists.

Top for the list though is more sets of animal mugs, including a ranges birds, farmyard animals and aquatic characters as well as an animal alphabet print.
