I am Glasswoman otherwise know as Chris Brown, a stained glass artist in Ferring, West Sussex. My favoured style of glass work is leaded light but I also make copper foiled work such as lamp shades and fused glass items. For many years I taught stained glass at Northbrook College but I now run private classes from my home studio.
How would you describe your style and your creations?
Its difficult to say what my style is but I like to make people smile with my work…
What do you enjoy most about your work?
I love the design process and physical making of a leaded light window. Especially as I have been creating unique glass panels for Worthing Pier, it is a pleasure to hear the personal stories about Loved Ones and then take these and turn them into a leaded panel as a lasting memory for the family. It is a real honour.
What can we expect to find on your stall at So This is Christmas in aid of St Barnabas on Sunday 3rd December? And are you looking forward to taking part?
A beautiful leaded light candle cross holder panel with a 50 hour church candle. A wonderful glass nativity scene in a metal stand that catches the light and sparkles. But mainly fused glass work including charateristic christmas decorations for your tree, all hand made by me including snowmen, santa’s and angels. A selection of glass coasters including stars wars and doctor who and many more all which make a useful Christmas presents. And more…
Do you have a best seller?
Umm, Christmas tree decorations at this time of year. And I take bookings for a 2 hour workshop with me to make you own glass coaster. Sat 9 Dec 10 – 12 or Sunday 10 Dec 2 – 4pm £35 for all materials to make one coaster, no glass cutting, designing and glueing maybe bend a thin strand of glass in the flame of a candle to create a name, all in a festive atmosphere. I then fire in my kiln and they are ready for collection a week later. Children must be accompanied by an adult. £10 non refundable deposit is required. Additional coasters £10 each on the day.
Do you have any plans or ambitions for the future?
This year I aim to finish a five year church project I have been working on, completely restoring and remaking 22 windows for Crainleigh Church. It has been a challenging but rewarding commission.
Do you have a motto or inspirational quote?
Do something every week that makes you smile… from watching a leaf fall from a tree to banging a drum, anything at all. Yes I’m a member of Worthing Steel Band.
