Please introduce yourself and your brand…
We are Katie Jo and Lulu – two crocheters and friends, who specialise in creating modern crochet designs in a range of yarns and styles. Our pieces, for the most part, are wearable, but we produce fresh, original and modern household items too. Mainly our work is commissioned, via word of mouth, so we are delighted to have an actual stall selling our creations at the Fairy Tale Fair this year.
Tell us a bit about your creations and how you make them…
We like to keep in with the seasons, working up bunting and bags in the spring/summer months and warm cowls, infinity scarves, hats and throws in the autumn/winter. We are strongly inspired by fresh, bright colours but also nature and aspects of our surroundings that ‘catch our eye’. We usually have loads of ideas for future projects dancing around in our heads and jotted into our planning pages. Then we discuss them together, advise on each other’s work in progress and suggest alterations or improvements. Sometimes we simply ask if we can have a version too!
How long have you been making your creations?
We have been colloborating and designing together for 5 years.
Do you have a best seller or most popular item?
Currently the French recycled-yarn wrist warmers are flying off the shelves, newborn heirloom blankets are also always a favourite. This season we are expecting our new range of gorgeous cowls to be extremely popular as winter approaches. We’ll be wearing them on the day of the Fair too!
What do you enjoy most about your craft?
Crochet has recently had a resurgence and is now appreciated by more and more people – it’s great to see this. We really enjoy creating unique and beautiful items that our customers love and also bringing colourful crochet happiness to our family and friends (old and new)!
Will you be selling some festive themed creations at The Fairy Tale Fair?
Our focus is mainly products and pieces for comfort and warmth, as well as stylish bespoke items to brighten the home, as a personal treat or as a Christmas or birthday gift.
What are your acheivements so far and what are your plans or ambitions for the future?
During 2013 and 2014 we got a very exciting job: a wonderful and creatively challenging project, contributing to a brand new book in the literary world of crochet motifs and patterns. We had the pleasure of working with the fabulous London based author, Tracey Lord and overall we contributed more than 50 original and classic designs each to the two publications, one on sale in the UK entitled ‘A Square a Day’ http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1782401415
and the other for the USA market entitled ‘The Big Book of Granny Squares’ http://amzn.com/1620337118
What are your ambitions for the future?
To continue collaborating, pattern writing, designing, creating and selling our work.
