We’re pleased to welcome back Purple Pomegranate Press who will join us on Sunday 2nd December at Worthing Charmandean. Find out more ahead of the fair…
Please introduce yourself and your brand….
I’m an author and editor and I’ve worked in children’s publishing for many years. In June last year, I set up a small independent publishing company, Purple Pomegranate Press. We publish adaptations of traditional fairy tales and original stories as greetings cards. Each little book contains a story and 8 or more stunning full-page illustrations by some extremely talented artists.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
I’ve been lucky to work with some very talented artists on the story books and the thing I enjoy most about my job is seeing the illustrations for the first time.
What can we expect to find on your stall at So This is Christmas in aid of St Barnabas on Sunday 2nd December? And are you looking forward to taking part?
I am really looking forward to it. It has such a lovely, fun atmosphere and there are so many really amazing stalls.
We have five new titles this year, Alice in Wonderland, The Snow Queen, The Ugly Duckling, The Little Match Girl and The Lion and the Mouse all illustrated by different artists which would all make lovely stocking fillers.
One of our new artists this year is Laura Danby who I met at the Fairy Tale Fair in Brighton this spring. She has done some very striking illustrations for The Lion and the Mouse which is one of our new titles this year.
We will be launching Alice in Wonderland with its gorgeous illustrations by Claire Fletcher.
at the Fairy Tale Fair so I’m very excited about that. Claire has also illustrated the very sad tale of The Little Match Girl which is set on New Year’s Eve.
Our hand-crocheted polar bears with smaller versions which would look great on any Christmas tree will also be on sale.
Do you have a best seller?
Since we launched the new titles this Autumn, The Ugly Duckling has been the best seller. I came across Kim Tillyer’s beautiful cards whilst browsing a bookshop in Grasmere in the Lake District this summer and I asked if she would like to illustrate The Ugly Duckling. Happily, she agreed.
Do you have any plans or ambitions for the future?
I’ve been asked to create a series of stories for The Quaker Tapestry Museum in the Lake District and also for schools learning English in Africa. I hope to have time to work on those in the future.
