Next up in our stall holder interviews we introduce Becky Lu, joining us on November 15th at Brighton Open Market – find out more about her…
Please introduce yourself and your brand….
Hello, I am Becky Lu and I am a Printed Textiles Designer and Illustrator, based in Brighton.
How would you describe your style and your creations?
All of my works begin as hand-drawn studies, I am heavily inspired by the natural world and geometric patterns. I also have a keen interest in botanical drawing and scientific illustration which influence my artwork. Style-wise I focus on intricate detail and dot-work.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
Each time I start a project, I uncover something new about the way I think creatively. With every new project I am further developing my drawing style and continuing to refine it, especially my style of dot-work and linear detail.
What can we expect to find on your stall at The Fairy Tale Fair Brighton this November? And are you looking forward to taking part?
I am very much looking forward to the Fairy Tale Fair. 🙂 I am excited to take part and I really can’t wait to see what everyone else has created too!
On my stall, my artwork will be available as digital prints or as limited edition runs of screen prints on paper and fabric. I have aimed to use traditional printed textile skills and methods where possible in order to produce my work. There will be a few framed pieces, tote bags and a small run of greetings cards available. In collaboration with Fiona Thomson of Glasshouse, we will also have a small range of Christmas ornaments and one-off, etched glass pieces.
Do you have any plans or ambitions for the future?
I currently work as a technical tutor in printed textiles at a university and would love to one day have my own textiles studio and workshop so that I could produce work for clients.
I would also like to continue with teaching at my studio by running dyeing and screen-printing workshops and classes for students or for anyone else who wishes to learn these traditional methods.
Do you have a motto or inspirational quote?
I don’t have a particular motto or inspirational quote, though I try to maintain a positive perspective in the way that I think and work when it comes to being creative. I know that to achieve my artistic goals, I’m only going to get what I put in and so though not everything is possible, having the right attitude will help you get there.
