Please introduce yourself and your brand….
Corridor Gallery is hitting the road!
Brighton’s newest Art space Corridor Gallery will be popping up for a one day unique appearance in Worthing on Sunday the 6th of December to join the good folks at The Fairy Tale Fair.
Corridor Gallery opened its doors to Brighton in September 2015 to showcase the wealth of Art and Craft made in East Sussex. The gallery holds monthly exhibitions featuring works by Brighton-based Artists in a diverse range of media.
“So This is Christmas” sees Corridor Gallery taking a selection of goodies from its well-stocked gift shop; expect our stall to be packed full of affordable, hand made gifts and curios by local makers with a beautiful selection of unique gift ideas which includes prints, sculpture, costume and fine jewellery.
How would you describe your style and your creations?
Corridor Gallery is run by a not-for-profit Arts Co-Operative made up of Brighton Artists and Makers and the stall will contain affordable, locally made works by over ten different makers. With a variety of prints, cards, unique and one-of-a-kind accessories and sculpture Corridor Gallery will provide a one-stop shop for truly special, affordable artisan goodies!
Do you have any plans or ambitions for the future?
The project is run by a dedicated, passionate team of volunteers, self-employed artists and artisans. Working as a Co-Operative business inspires and motivates our group, resulting in an ambitious and exciting programme of 12 exhibitions for 2016 featuring a talented, vibrant and diverse range of Artists all living and working in East Sussex.
Providing an evolving, exciting and inspiring Art Space for Brighton is at the core of the Co-Op’s manifesto, 2016 is shaping up to be an amazing year of Art in Brighton!
What do you enjoy most about your work?
The Artists & makers involved with Corridor Gallery love being self-employed creatives and all run successful independent businesses and labels. Corridor Gallery provides a chance for everyone to come together; stepping away from the often solitary worlds of our studios and workbenches – supporting and promoting each other whilst working on a shared project.
In the interests of full disclosure most of the workload; from exhibition curation, press duties and management meetings are often fuelled by delicious cake and or beer from some of our favourite Brighton independent cafes and pubs. (Finding a good excuse to eat more cake is always enjoyable!)
Do you have a motto or inspirational quote?
“What gets released when you give a common collective aim to a group of people; it is absolutely astonishing what happens. It’s magic.” Antony Gormley
(This quote was recently discovered by the Corridor Gallery crew thanks to a fantastic new Imagine.. documentary retrospective about the famous sculptors work to date.)
