Say Hello to… Creative Florence – The Happy Inky

craftNo commentsNovember 3, 2018FTFadmin

Today we’re pleased to introduce a Fairy Tale Fair newbie who joins us for the first time on Saturday 10th November at Brighton Open Market. Find out more about her ahead of the day…

Please introduce yourself and your brand….

Creative Florence – The Happy Inky
After spending 25 years working as a graphic designer, one day, in 2016, I woke up and decided to follow the whisperings of my inky soul. I wanted to be an illustrator. And I wanted to illustrate wonderful, magical books for children. Drawing, painting and inking have always made me feel complete and happy, and now I’m on a mission to share my happy work with the children (and their grown-ups) who need it the most. My books and prints touch upon the difficulties I’ve experienced, but in the most hopeful and positive way, while the characters I create all have very special messages to deliver.

How would you describe your style and your creations?

My work is fun and mischievous with the ‘yep, that’s Flo!’ sense of humour that has carried me through the tough times.
‘Why can’t a sausage dog have mustard socks?’is the kind of thing I’ll ponder, as I doodle and sketch and come up with new ideas.
I love to play with watercolours and textures and mark making and have discovered my own unique mixed media technique, which I apply to all the work I do.
I have also introduced ceramics to the mix.

What do you enjoy most about your work?

Getting messy and having fun with different media which ends up as a picture that has a positive message and makes someone smile

What can we expect to find on your stall at The Fairy Tale Fair Christmas Special at Brighton Open Market this November? And are you looking forward to taking part?

Prints, Greeting cards, Ceramic and inky gifts

Do you have a best seller?

My Tiger Print called Courage and my Cats in hats

Do you have any plans or ambitions for the future?

To get two childrens picture books I am working on published and keep making prints and playing with clay

Setting up Drawing parties to entertain children on the birthdays by creating characters with children using their imagination.

Do you have a motto or inspirational quote?

This isn’t mine own, but I love this and has helped me
“No matter how you feel, get up, dress up, show up and never give up!”

Describe your Christmas in 3 words…

Relaxing, Giving, Timeout
