We are pleased to introduce Killastrations, new to our fair on August 15th, we love her cute and kawaii style and think you will too..
Hello! My name is Natasha and I am the owner of Killastrations.
I come from a background of artists. My dad used to create fantasy art using oil paints and my mother was an aspiring fashion designer, so I learnt to be creative through my parents. I love being creative, but I struggled to find my own style for a very long time. It wasn’t until I started college I discovered the world of ‘Japanese Pop Culture’. I came up with the name ‘Killastrations’ at university during a lecture. I used to doodle on my shoes and found myself writing killastrations on the side of my Dr.Martins. Since then I have been known as Killastrations over the internet.
My style is influenced by Japan and the kawaii trends, but I like to add my own unique style. I would say my main theme is the use of the Octopus, my first piece of handmade jewellery was a tiny orange Octopus with a decoration of sweets on it’s head. I think what pursueded me to create an Octopus was my logo! Soon after I found myself making Octopus jewellery for friends, then I slowly became obsessed with drawing tentacles and started creating pretty artwork influenced by this. All my jewellery is handmade out of Fimo Clay and I use Adobe Illustrator to create my artwork.
I really enjoy the freedom I have with my work. When I was university (and I think most art students can relate to this) it was always or most of the time about creating a piece that your tutor liked and that really used to frustrate me! I love that I can create something that might not have any meaning behind it, but uses inspiration from something I am interested i.e. Japan and their pop culture!
I will be presenting some quirky/cute vector illustrations! I also create miniature decoden canvases. Most of my handmade jewellery is inspired by my own artwork, so you might find some unusual designs. All my jewellery is handmade out of Fimo clay, I also create yummy sweet like jewellery! I am very excited to be taking part at the Open Market in Brighton. It will be my first time presenting my work in Brighton so I have no idea what to expect, but I am really excited to meet the lovely Brighton community.
My ambition is to have my own boutique in Central London, selling my art and handmade jewellery. I also plan to move onto apparel, this will be something I’d like to work on after I open my boutique 🙂
” Dreams x Blood, Sweat, Glitter Drops = Ureshii (◍•ᴗ•◍)” is a motto I just recently came up with! It motivates me to keep going and achieve my goals. Ureshii is the adjective for happy in Japanese.
I am currently working on my website, but you can find more about me and my artwork at www.killastrations.wordpress.com I am also on instagram and twitter, just type in Killastrations.
