In the first of our summer 2013 fair stall holder posts we meet a new seller to The Fairy Tale Fair. We fell in love with these cute little needle-felted characters, and can’t wait to see them at the fair on the 10th August! Find out more…
“I love the process of turning an idea into a reality. I try and do that in many areas of my life, but with craft, it’s a great feeling, to see something come to life from just a few materials and imagination!”– Lottie Leo
Tell us a bit about you and what you do/ make….
I’ve always enjoyed being creative. I make crafty things, I sing and write songs and every now and then I like to get the oil and canvas out and paint! A few of years ago I was working in a beautiful gift shop, which sold lots of lovely handmade gifts. So I started making cards to sell in the shop. I based all the cards around two characters who I named ‘Lottie’ and ‘Leo’. I was so excited when people bought them that I was inspired to sell more of the things I make. At the start of this year I decided to start a small online blog/ shop named ‘Lottie Leo’ and I’m just beginning to get the ball rolling!
How would you describe your style?
I make a variety of gifts, from needle-felted animals to wooden hanging signs. My favourite materials to use are paint, felt and wood. The wooden signs and wooden fridge magnets have quotes written on them, all of which I have painted completely by hand. No two of my items are the same. I love everything to be unique. My Needle- felted animals are created entirely from wool and then I make them little clothes and give them accessories! I think I’d describe my style as ‘Sweet’, ‘quirky’ and ‘Shabby Chic’.
How long have you been making your craft items?
I’ve been making craft items since I was about 10! I used to make cards, scrapbooks, bags, pencil cases and other handy things, but always just for me or friends and family.
Apart from the cards I used to sell in a local gift shop, I have only recently started to sell my items.
Do you have a best seller? If so what is it?
I don’t think I’ve sold enough yet to have a best seller, but I’ve had lots of lovely feedback and encouragement and I’m looking forward to seeing what my best seller is when I do this craft fair in August!
What do you enjoy most about your craft?
I love the process of turning an idea into a reality. I try and do that in many areas of my life, but with craft, it’s a great feeling, to see something come to life from just a few materials and imagination!
Do you take part in other craft events (fairs, open houses, markets etc…)?
I plan to take part in more fairs and markets in the future.
What are your plans/ ambitions for the future? Or have you already achieved them?
I’m very excited about the future! I plan to take part in fairs, markets and open houses as well as developing my online blog and facebook page. I’m thinking about possibly starting a needle-felting workshop for people who want to learn, and so, maybe, if I get enough interest, that could be on the horizon too! Lots of exciting ideas!
Any other comments you wish to make:
I will be donating 10% of everything I make at this fair to ‘Cruelty Free International’ to help try and put an end to animal testing for cosmetics.
