Say Hello To Lucy of Vera Jane. Lucy is pretty new to the craft fair scene but we think her creations will go down wonderfully, especially for our Fairy Tale Fair- we have our eye on one of her beautiful teddy bears!
“I’d like to imagine all my items in this sort of fairy-tale forest imagination land where you can eat the trees and the clouds are candyfloss!”– Lucy, Vera Jane
Tell us a bit about you and what you do/ make….
Hello! My name is Lucy I’m a very enthusiastic seamstress and the maker behind Vera Jane. I mostly make one of a kind item’s from lovely materials such as imported Japanese fabrics, vintage pass me downs and other cute finds I’ve been collecting for a while now!
How would you describe your style?
Some words I would use to describe it are – whimsical, sickly sweet, magical, cute! I think it’s a sort of fantasy style… Think of dreams you have when you are young or the magical stories you get told…I’d like to imagine all my items in this sort of fairy-tale forest imagination land where you can eat the trees and the clouds are candyfloss!
How long have you been making your craft items?
I have been sewing on and off for a good few years but started Vera Jane recently which is named after my lovely Nana who was also a seamstress. She always encouraged my creativity and gave me some good advice along with her button tin 🙂 So it felt very appropriate and inspiring to name this after her!
Do you have a best seller? If so what is it?
Not yet! There seems to be a lot of love for the Teddy Bears and more recently the Alice in Wonderland Skirt made from amazing Fabric by Kokka!
What do you enjoy most about your craft?
I do enjoy each stage in its own way but the creative part is definitely a great bit… This is where I choose the fabrics and decide what to make from it… Then experimenting with different colour combinations and other materials is really exciting to me! Although I can spend ages doing this so maybe not the most productive! It’s also such a nice feeling when people appreciate your work and love their item 🙂
Do you take part in other craft events (fairs, open houses, markets etc…)?
My first fair was with my sister in Alton but it was a rainy day and not many people showed up. Other than that I did the Brighton craft fair at the friends meeting house in June which was lovely but I still feel pretty new to it all!
What items and festive gifts will you be selling at The Fairy Tale Fair?
I will be selling a range of mostly one of a kind items including – Home wares and Teddy’s and also accessories and a few things to wear. They are a combination of festive colours and my usual brightly coloured treasures.
What are your plans/ ambitions for the future? Or have you already achieved them?
I have lots of plans and ambitions for the future! I’ve had a colourful start and would like to continue improving my skills and also learn new ones. I plan to work on new collections and make more wearable pieces. I also hope to have a website next year where I can showcase my work and also have online shopping there too.
