We can’t wait to welcome back Karen Rao to our craft workshop room at Patcham once again this Saturday! Find out all about her…
Please introduce yourself and your brand….
My name is Karen Rao and I am a felt artist. I create wearable art using just wool, soap and water!
How would you describe your style and your creations?
I create animal hats in the stunningly tactile medium of felt. Carefully blending different wools and animal fibres, results in highly realistic colours and textures of our canine and feline friends and other animals too. My work is fun and functional, I also create hair clip ears and bendable tails!
What do you enjoy most about your work?
Felt making is so versatile that it is always leading me to new directions! My work is constantly evolving as I find new inspirations and new techniques! Felt can be wall art, it can be worn or it can be a sculptural object – it’s uses are limitless.
What can we expect to find on your stall at The Fairy Tale Fair Brighton this Spring? And are you looking forward to taking part?
I always love taking part at The Fairy Tale Fair and as usual I will be holding a felt making workshop at the Patcham Fair. We will be creating our firm favourite – animal art! As it’s Mothers Day the following day it’s a perfect opportunity to create a gift for Mum: favourite foxes or a pretty florals using the ancient technique of using just wool, soap and water!
Do you have any plans or ambitions for the future?
Yes, I wanted to continue with my felt making workshops at more events. Recently I’ve had more interest and recognition for my individual style amid a more traditional craft with some exciting new bookings.
Describe what Easter is to you in 10 words or less:
