Today we’re really please to welcome She Knits You Love for the first time to our blog and fair on 14th April at Worthing Charmandean, find out more about her creations before the day…
Please introduce yourself and your brand….
My name is Jackyoung Simpson… but my friends call me Jamie! I’m originally from Seoul, South Korea and currently live in Brighton.
I moved to the UK in 2010 after meeting my husband whilst travelling in Australia and together, we have a beautiful three-year-old Daughter. I consider myself a Mother of four at timesif you include my two dogs… and my Husband of course!
Before having my Daughter, I was a store Manager for an international Fashion and Home retailer. I decided to take a step down in responsibility after she was born, and I reduced my hours in order to spend more time with her… this additional time meant that I rediscovered an old hobby of mine: knitting!
I have been knitting on and off since I was 10 years old, but over the past three years, I have turned this hobby into my work and passion. It has not been easy working a part time job, raising a child and starting my own business, but when you get joy from creating your own unique pieces of art for others to enjoy, it really does give you the motivation and drive to succeed… plus three coffees a day also helps! Myother joys outside of work include singing, hunting for treasures and bargains in Charity Shops and French Markets, and watching Netflix and spooning Nutella out the jar whilst I’m knitting!
She Knits You Love was born out of my love for knitting and crocheting. I offer modern, Scandinavian, handcrafted gifts. I use many different eco-friendly materials to create my variety of clothing, accessories, baskets, blankets and cushions. I also run arm knitting and necklace making workshops in various venues across Brighton & Hove. You can find all the current workshops available on the She Knits You Love Eventbritepage.
How would you describe your style and your creations?
I’m a huge lover of modern, Scandinavian and contemporary style pieces which is represented in my brand. Living in Brighton also affects my creations so much! This colourful, vibrant city has influenced the materials I use which are now much more representative of all the colours in the rainbow! My overall goal is to create simple, modern, stylish, and easily wearable hand knitted, and crochet products.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
There are so many things; it’s hard to choose one!
Firstly, I love the fact that I can juggle my work around my life. Being a Mum and a Wife can be exhausting. Knitting and crocheting on my days off is not only a great way for me to relax and be calm, but also, a great way for me to express myself! I’m not the best at articulating myself with words or in writing, so my work allows me to show people visually who I am! She Knits You Love has connected me with so many people all around the world who care about the Earth, and this teaches me a lot every single day. The whole journey of running She Knits You Love has been a really humbling one.
Secondly, working with many different materials and colours is very exciting and fun! It is painfully addictive to buy more and more different variations of yarn – my other half is not very happy about this but he married a knitter, what did he expect?!
What can we expect to find on your stall at The Fairy Tale Fair Easter Special in aid of St Barnabas at Worthing Charmandean on Sunday 14th April? And are you looking forward to taking part?
YES! I am so looking forward to it! This will be my first market in Worthing and also, the first with The Fairy Tale Market.
At the event, I will bring along my eco-friendly, crochet Easter Egg Hunt Bags for children, along with a variety of baskets and plants pots for home décor. For those who love the trendy, chunky knit blankets and cushions from Instagram, I will bring along some samples so that you can chose your own ‘made to order’ product as well. I will also bring alongmy recycled T-shirt yarn necklaces in tons of colour options… I have lots to show!
Do you have a best seller?
My set of 3 baskets are always very popular; people love to use them in so many ways such as for nursery room organisation, as fruit baskets, plant pots or for make up organisation! These multi-functional, washable baskets made from recycled T-shirt yarn come in many different colours and sizes, so please ask me at the stall if you have any questions about them!
Do you have any plans or ambitions for the future?
I have so many plans! I need to create my website, plan more workshop venues and chat to more wholesale stockists…there’s a lot to do and my ‘Mummy brain’ can be a little overloaded! The goal for this year is to have more than three markets in Sussex, to write my own patterns to launch and finally, to run an exclusive arm-knitting workshop… more on this to come soon!
Long term, I really would like to launch my own ladies knitting designs. I don’t have a degree in Design but I won’t let that stop me! My experience in Fashion Retail combined with She Knits You Love has given me a unique insight into what I might like to create in the future.
Do you have a motto or inspirational quote?
Dream it, speak it, see it happening.
What part of Easter do you enjoy the most?
The Chocolate Easter Eggs of course! The bigger the Egg, the better!
