Today we’re excited to welcome back Laura Danby, one of our regular makers, who we can’t wait to have back at Brighton Open Market on Saturday 12th May. Find out more about her and her handmade gifts…
Please introduce yourself and your brand….
Hello I’m Laura Danby. A designer, illustrator, print maker and crafter! I create colourful animal and pattern illustrations for a range of unique handmade gifts. My background is in graphic design and print, I love taking a subject and simplifying it into its basic form and shapes. I am really inspired by the natural world, Scandinavian design and the colours and patterns of the 1950s.
How would you describe your style and your creations?
My style is flat colour, sharp lines with a retro edge. I make bold statement acrylic jewellery and keyrings. I print then sew a range of tote bags and purses / make up bags. Screen printing is a great pleasure of mine, so I design and print wall art and greetings cards. Recently I have been exploring enamelware mugs, bespoke wooden display letters and hard enamel pin badges. All my designs have a touch of Scandi and a big pop of colour.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
The idea, the creativity, the illustration, then process of making the item and then packaging it up in my brand style. I love rolling my sleeves up and screen printing my latest design. I enjoy making each and every item!
What can we expect to find on your stall at The Fairy Tale Fair Fringe Festival Special on Saturday 12th May at Brighton Open Market? And are you looking forward to taking part?
I will be selling a selection of my range of bags, purses and unique acrylic jewellery (with new designs). I will have a few new prints that I am launching at the Brighton Festival Open Houses this May. The stall will be a colourful fiesta of animals, gifts and prints to brighten your day. Please come and say Hello!
Do you have a best seller?
I have a few best sellers and these differ online to at a fair. My fox brooch has been a firm favourite, with my giraffe tote bag and toucan print coming a close second and third!
Do you have any plans or ambitions for the future?
My ambitions are sky high! I am loving the journey I am on and plan to illustrate more and create more ranges with more fantastic products coming your way in 2018/19. Watch this space!
Do you have a motto or inspirational quote?
We have a print on the wall of my studio space, which says ‘Work hard and be nice to people.’ Its simple and not rocket science but its a good basis for a happy life as long as you love the work you do! I have my desk at the One Girl Band community in the North Laines in Brighton, full of inspirational ladies following their dreams!
How can we find out more about you?
