“I love looking at the fabrics I have been given with the challenge to make a beautiful keepsake for someone to treasure. Seeing the smile on someone’s face when you hand them the finished piece is always both satisfying and inspiring…”- Lindy Wells
Tell us a bit about you and what you do/ make….
Hello I am Lindy of ‘Lindy Wells’ I have been creating handmade memory gifts and home-wares for just over two years now. After completing my Sculpture Degree at The University of Brighton and giving birth to my son (a lot later in life!), I began the therapeutic art of sewing as a means of battling postnatal depression.
I make a variety of gifts and products for the home, such as my signature Owl Doorstops, hanging hearts, cushions and much more. All products are created from pre-loved clothing and other fabrics.
How would you describe your style?
My style is certainly eclectic, quirky and hopefully inspiring. I love using both vintage fabric and the pre-loved fabrics that people use for their commissions. I feel my love and passion for what I make shows in my work.
How long have you been making your craft items?
I have been crafting ever since I was young but in the last few years it has played a key part in my life. My business, ‘Lindy Wells’ enables me to craft each and every day.
Do you have a best seller? If so what is it?
My best seller has to be my Owl Doorstops as well as being my personal favorite!
What do you enjoy most about your craft?
I take great enjoyment out of each and every aspect of my craft…I love looking at the fabrics I have been given with the challenge to make a beautiful keepsake for someone to treasure. Seeing the smile on someone’s face when you hand them the finished piece is always both satisfying and inspiring.
Do you take part in other craft events (fairs, open houses, markets etc…)?
More recently I have been concentrating on the Open Houses in Brighton and have exhibited my work in both the Fiveways and Dyke Road trail. I have also exhibited within the Artwave Open House’s in Lewes and the surrounding areas. I will also be selling at; Cascade’s Christmas Pop up Shop, at the Needlemakers on the 1st and 2nd of December and Balfour Primary School’s Xmas Shopping evening on the 16th November.
You will be providing a workshop for The Fairy Tale Fair- what will your workshop involve?
My workshop for the Fair will be aimed at both adults and children. I will supply pre-cut Christmas patterns to choose from – created out of felt and other fabrics (some vintage), as well as providing buttons and trimmings for decoration.
For those who wish to sew, needle and thread will be provided and for non-sewers and children there will be glue.
It would be great if those taking part could bring along some of their own pre-loved fabric and make a keepsake Christmas decoration for themselves or a present for someone special.
What are your plans/ ambitions for the future? Or have you already achieved them?
Taking part in The Brighton Open House’s was one of my biggest dreams and one I have now achieved, several times!
I have more workshops which are in the planning stage at the moment and I am also focusing my attention on New Born Baby Gift Sets, more information about these will be available at the Fairy Tale Fair Christmas Fair.
Any other comments you wish to make:
I am really looking forward to my first Fairy Tale Fair, it will also be the first time I have taken a workshop at a Fair.
