Please introduce yourself and your brand….
Hello all! I’m Emma from Sakura, very nice to meet you.
I design and make vintage inspired accessories and have been doing so for a good few years now.
I grew up watching Bette Davis and Joan Crawford films; these ladies had style and charisma and were never too far from a fabulous outfit.
How would you describe your style and your creations?
Vintage inspired with a contemporary twist.
I’m very happy to make replica pieces for those in the vintage scene specialising in a certain era, but I love having a play to fuse modern materials to a vintage silhouette.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
Oooh lots! I love sourcing fabrics, whether it’s being intrepid and finding scraps on my travels or closer to home. I enjoy working with fab materials, antique embellishments and above all this I love steaming and blocking the felts. I use vintage wooden hat blocks, pitted with thousands of holes from milliners before, that link to the past is pretty special.
What can we expect to find on your stall at The Fairy Tale Fair Brighton this May? And are you looking forward to taking part?
I’m really looking forward to taking part and trying not to spend all of my monies on the amazing retailers near me!
This will be my first time at The Fairy Tale Fair, so I’m hoping for ‘shock and awe’ with a collection of headpieces and accessories to suit any budget and a good mix of styles from Rockabilly girls, bridal parties, little ladies, race go-ers to those who just appreciate a great quality hat!
Do you have any plans or ambitions for the future?
I have exciting ambitions to grow the business and find more like-minded boutiques and retailers to spread the word of Sakura! Upcoming collections will include headpieces, belts and cuffs made from upcycled kimono fabrics, I can’t wait to get all my precious things out and play!
Do you have a motto or inspirational quote?
“no challenge should be faced without a little charm and a lot of style”
