Please introduce yourself and your brand….
Turquoise Gem by Gem Blastock
I am Gem, an Eco Artist specialising in Pointillism and Screen printing. Through my unique skill of dot drawing, I create realistic illustrations reflecting my story of growing up on the inspirational Thanet Coastline in Kent. Perfecting the art of supplying high quality yet sustainable homeware and gifting products.
How would you describe your style and your products?
Through my unique skill of dot drawing, I create realistic illustrations reflecting my story of growing up on the Thanet Coastline in Kent, revealing I am an Ocean girl at heart. Perfecting the art of supplying high quality yet sustainable homeware and giftware products whilst educating people about the biodiversity of the oceans around the UK.
There is something for everyone.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
I have two specific parts that I enjoy most about my work. In my illustration seeing the animal slowly come to life, the eye is the heart to the soul. In my print work there is something very satisfying about lifting the screen off to reveal the print, I never get bored of that feeling.
Do you have a best seller or favourite to make?
My favourite make is Sally the Squid, she took me about 400 hours in total on and off over a period of a year to complete her.
What are your plans or ambitions for the future?
I am expanding my homewares into reclaimed lampshades, wall ornaments, table linen and home textiles. Plus to keep adding new illustrations to my Marine collection which will lead into designing a range of wallpapers.
Sum up your brand in 3 words…
Eco-minded, beautiful and inspiring.
Do you have a motto or favourite quote for inspiration?
Stop being afraid of what could go wrong and start being excited about what could go right.
