Today we are pleased to introduce a creative new to The Fairy Tale Fair – Claire of Made in Pixieland. Her magically themed illustrations are perfectly suited for our fair and we can’t wait to welcome her on Saturday May 20th at Brighton Open Market. Find out more about her…
Please introduce yourself and your brand….
My name is Claire Maraldo and I live deep in the Kent countryside near Canterbury. Made in Pixieland was created as an outlet for my drawing and escapism. When I started out, I was living in a town but I really needed to be in the countryside so I drew pictures to bring this closer to the life I wanted.
How would you describe your style and your creations?
I am influenced by the works of Margaret Tarrant and Cicely Mary Barker. When I had my son in 1999, he looked so much like a pixie that all the images of my childhood came rushing back and I had a huge urge to create my own world. My style is nostalgic and whimsical but I love things a little bit creepy too!
What do you enjoy most about your work?
Apart from drawing, which I try to do daily, I love seeing the finished product. Seeing my designs on a greetings card or as a piece of jewellery never gets boring. I really enjoy sending orders off around the world too, its surprising the places Pixieland goods end up!
What can we expect to find on your stall at The Fairy Tale Fair Brighton Fringe Special on Saturday 20th May? And are you looking forward to taking part?
I will be bringing selection of paper goods such as cards and prints plus jewellery. Prices range from £1 to £30. I am so excited be at The Fairy Tale Fair. Brighton is such a fun place and I’m sure it will be a great day with lots of lovely stalls. I am looking forward to doing a bit of shopping myself too.
Do you have a best seller?
My Northern Lights print has been my biggest seller in the last 18 months, there is a companion print to this coming to the Fairytale Fair. The Made in Pixieland colouring books have been really popular and my wrapping papers are always popular as they can be framed or used in craft projects.
Do you have any plans or ambitions for the future?
I really want to expand my range of goods, especially mugs and plates. I would also like to get more wholesale clients so I can expand the business.
Do you have a motto or inspirational quote?
The Nike one……“Just do it” I get paralysed by perfection and tend to procrastinate so this is my motto to live by.
