Please introduce yourself and your brand….
Hi there, my name is Susy, I’m the owner of Original Buggy Mitt and I live in Brighton. Buggy Mitts are hand warmers especially designed for toddlers, which fit onto their stroller harness. I created my first one a few years ago for my son, as he refused to wear mittens. Only someone who has battled with a child to try and get gloves on them, knows the stress it creates (on both sides) only for them to take them off the moment you’re not looking! This was my solution. No more stand offs, no more cold hands and he was still able to have snack or a drink when he wanted to. I’ve refined the design and carefully selected fabrics, to bring you the products you see today.
How would you describe your style and your creations?
Eclectic. I love colour, texture and pattern and I get to embrace all three in my short run collections. It also means that I get to cover different styles depending on the theme. But ultimately each Buggy Mitt is fun and will appeal to children (and their grown up) I love the vibe of the Pink Attitude Collection but also love the calm and timeless feel to the So Special Limited Edition Buggy Mitt
What do you enjoy most about your work?
Gathering together the fabrics for a new collection and seeing it come together. Sometimes they fall together effortlessly and sometimes it takes days or weeks of researching. Also working out patterns for the character Buggy Muffs, like the fox and rabbit and others I’ve got in mind for the future.
What can we expect to find on your stall at The Fairy Tale Fair Brighton on December 11th at Brighton Open Market? And are you looking forward to taking part?
I’m really excited about taking part, it will only be my second fair, so I’m also a little nervous! Come and say hello, I will have Buggy Mitts galore, ranging from super soft plush or waterproof ones to Limited Edition Harris Tweed-even if you don’t have any kids they’re really tactile, so I’m happy if you just want to stroke one!
Do you have a best seller?
One that has been getting a lot of positive response is the Fox Buggy Mitt from the Woodland Collection, he’s one of my favourites too.
Do you have any plans or ambitions for the future?
Due to recent ill health, all my business plans have gone awry and my whole life needs reassessing but eventually, I would love this to become a paid full time venture. But before I take over the world I need to try and tackle social media!
Do you have a motto or inspirational quote?
As I have a Pokemon obsessed toddler, we use “Ash never gives up.” (Last month it was Batman) I don’t know about inspirational but the sentiment is positive and I find I have started using it myself now!
What part of Christmas do you enjoy the most?
The magic. Seeing it all again from a 3 ¾ year olds perspective, knowing that Santa DOES exist and a little elf comes a visiting. This will be the first year he’ll really get it and I can’t wait!
