Say Hello to… All Things Spike and Beautiful

craftNo commentsNovember 20, 2018Claire
Today we meet Natalie of All Things Spike and Beautiful for the first time who joins us on Sunday 2nd December at Worthing Charmandean. Find out more ahead of the fair…

Please introduce yourself and your brand….

Hi, I’m Natalie of “All Things Spike and Beautiful”, which is a travelling market stall selling, among other things, plants and miniature protesters!

How would you describe your style and your creations?

Quirky and political but with a very English sense of humour.

I love plants, I’m very politically minded and I love all things miniature. All Things Spike and Beautiful is a combination and celebration of all of these things.

I’m also partial to a pun which is where my brand name came from.

What do you enjoy most about your work?

I love making things. I also enjoy finding all the best protest signs that people have thought up, made and taken out on the streets for various protests. After every protest (and there are a lot at the moment!), I search online for the best or funniest signs and shrink them down to miniature size for my tiny people.

I also really like meeting customers on market days and seeing people’s reactions to my creations. People often find them funny and spend ages reading them all with the magnifying glass.

What can we expect to find on your stall at So This is Christmas in aid of St Barnabas on Sunday 2nd December? And are you looking forward to taking part?

I’m really looking forward to “So This is Christmas” in Worthing – it’s the first time I’ve taken part so I’m excited to see what it’s like.

I will have lots of miniature protesters as well as miniature Christmas trees and all things Christmassy, tiny and rebellious.

Do you have a best seller?

The Protest message in a bottle is definitely a best seller but the messages people go for change all the time.

Lately Brexit protesters have been selling well. The little people with funny signs like “My arms are tired” also sell well year round.

Do you have any plans or ambitions for the future?

I am about to make a series of Suffragette protesters which will be ready and on sale for the first time at the Fairy Tale Fair. I’m excited about these as I haven’t made any historical figures before.

One day I’d really like to be able to get a camper van to sell things from. This is a long held ambition of mine.

Do you have a motto or inspirational quote?

Use what you’ve got!

And of course, “My arms are tired” 🙂

Describe your Christmas in 3 words…

Small, spiky and beautiful!
