Today we welcome another new stall holder to The Fairy Tale Fair for Spring 2013- Amanda of Maygreen Fairies. It is as if her creations were made for our fair- all her items are fairy themed and of a whimsical nature! Find out more about these magical creations below…
“I love attending Fairs and having all my hard work on display, meeting people and chatting about my creations and seeing clients faces when they come across my Fairy Jars for the first time, or read one of my cheeky Fairy Cards, it’s great to make people smile through my Art.”– Amanda, Maygreen Fairies.
Tell us a bit about you and what you do/ make….
I am a self taught Mixed Media & Altered Artist who enjoys creating whimsical art using vintage photos, materials and findings. I live in the Sussex Countryside with my husband and young twin boys.
My creations include Bottled & Caged Fairies and Mermaids, unique Greetings Cards, Luxury Gift Tags, Whimsical Bookmarks and Cute Fairy Magnets, Magical Jewellery pieces, Home décor items, Decorative Collages, and Altered Books.
How would you describe your style?
In two words – Vintage Whimsy
How long have you been making your craft items?
I began creating whimsical Artist Trading Cards when my twin boys were babies, some seven years ago now, the rest of my creations evolved over those seven years to where I am now.
Do you have a best seller? If so what is it?
I have several popular items, but the pieces that get the most attention, particularly at Fairs I attend are my Fairy Jars, each Fairy is suspended inside the Jar on an invisible thread which means that the Fairies appear to flutter and move inside the Jar. I also offer a Bespoke Service where you can have a loved one bottled as a Fairy or Mermaid, these make lovely gifts and are also popular as Bridesmaids Gifts at Weddings.
What do you enjoy most about your craft?
I love attending Fairs and having all my hard work on display, meeting people and chatting about my creations and seeing clients faces when they come across my Fairy Jars for the first time, or read one of my cheeky Fairy Cards, it’s great to make people smile through my Art.
Do you take part in other craft events (fairs, open houses, markets etc…)?
For the past three years I have taken part in the Wealden Times Mid Winter & Mid Summer Fairs, I also attend the Kitsch & Stitch Vintage & Makers Fair in Cranbrook, The Pop-Up Vintage Fair in Hassocks & Lewes and have my Art on display in the village of Firle for Artwave, the Lewes Open House & Studio Event. In addition I have Open Studio Events that I run myself at The Little White Studio in Horam where I teach workshops with my Artist friend Karen.
What items and Mother’s day/ Easter gifts will you be selling at The Fairy Tale Fair?
Greetings Cards, Luxury Gift Tags, Whimsical Bookmarks, Fairy & Storybook Jewellery, Fairy Magnets, Pretty Whimsical Needle cases, Home Décor Items to include: Vintage Ruler Covered Picture Frames, Vintage & Fairytale Cushions and Lavender Cushions, as well as my popular Fairy & Mermaid Jars and Cages.
The Needle cases & Jewellery make lovely Mother’s Day & Easter Gifts!
What are your plans/ ambitions for the future? Or have you already achieved them?
In the future I would like to have my art in more small boutiques across the South East and into London as well as promote my Fairy Jars through Not On The High Street. I also want to have regular clients attending workshops at The Little White Studio, a workshop venue that I have set up with my good friend and water colour artist Karen.
Any other comments you wish to make:
My work has been published in Somerset Life, Somerset Studio Gallery, Doll Magazine, Piddlestix Zine, Flapperology Zine and more recently in the 2012 April issue of Wedding Magazine. I also have my work in the fabulous Whimsical Art Book by Lisa Kettell; Art Circus, available on Amazon! I was also voted Froudian Artist of the month back in July 2004 and my work has been exhibited at the Arison Gallery in Manchester.
