We first met The Owl & Otter at our last Fairy Tale Fair, and we are lucky enough to have them and their wonderful laser cut creations back again.
“We’ve taken part in the last two Fairy Tale Fairs and they have been brilliant. We’ve met some lovely customers, made friends with wonderful crafters and eaten some gorgeous cake…”– Rachael, Owl & Otter
Remind us a bit about you and what you do/ make….
My name is Rachael and I’m the face behind the Owl & Otter, which is based in the sunny seaside town of Brighton. The Owl & Otter started on my living room floor when I was making favors/table decorations for my wedding. We had a very tight budget but we wanted to have all our friends and family around us so I set to work. It was a lot of hardwork, especially fitting it around my work, but I got there and it was a fantastic day overall! The wedding showed me that I loved creating beautiful presents and decorations and from that day on, I have set about making products that I would want in my own home and in July 2012, the Owl & Otter was created.
Do you have a best seller? If so what is it?
Our best seller by far, is our lovely jewellery tree. It features the Owl & Otter’s little feathered friends and its absolutely brilliant for storing earrings, bracelets and necklaces. This product started life as a solution to my jewellery storage needs! Its lovely to think that other people, around the world, who also have a jewellery tree that I designed on their dressing table.
What do you enjoy most about your craft?
There are many things I love about my business. I love being creative and working with clients to ensure they get the perfect product. I have been self employed for nearly 2 years and its been a fantastic experience. Its taught me a lot about myself and given me the flexibility to pursue new crafts and ideas. Its a lot of work and its not uncommon for me to finish orders late at night but its worth it.
Do you take part in other craft events (fairs, open houses, markets etc…)?
At the moment, The Owl & Otter is only going to attend The Fairy Tale Fair but we do have big plans for the future so watch this space!
What items and Mother’s day/ Easter gifts will you be selling at The Fairy Tale Fair?
We’ve got some cracking products to sell at The Fairy Tale Fair, which we hope people will like. We have recently created a range of felt coasters, which are perfect as a Mother’s Day present. We’ve also just designed a new clock using cherrywood and acrylic and a XL jewellery tree, perfect for necklaces and larger pieces of jewellery, which we shall also be selling in March. We are also excited to have our eco-friendly ready to paint Easter decorations, perfect for children to paint over the holidays.
You took part in the last Fairy Tale Fair, did you enjoy it?
We’ve taken part in the last two Fairy Tale Fairs and they have been brilliant. We’ve met some lovely customers, made friends with wonderful crafters and eaten some gorgeous cake! Each fair has had a great array of people, from children to grandparents, and has been superbly promoted by Claire. I have been looking forward to the next Fairy Tale Fair since, December!
What are your plans/ ambitions for the future? Or have you already achieved them?
We’ve got a number of plans for the future. I want to continue expanding the Owl & Otter range and continue to offer quality products which are finished to the highest standard. I’m looking forward to making new clocks, photo frames and mirrors. In the meantime, I am concentrating on getting the stock ready for March!
Any other comments you wish to make:
If you’re wondering why we’re called the Owl & Otter, its basically because my husband’s nickname is nightowl and my favorite animal is an otter. While some people have doves at their wedding, we had owls (see cheesy photo)
