“I could spend hours looking at different fabric, thinking about what I could make with it”– Lynn, Pomelo Crafts
Hello, I’m Lynn from Pomelo Crafts
Tell us a bit about you and what you do/ make….
Well, I live in Brighton with my husband and 2 little girls. I do have a day job, but I love to sew on the side. I started sewing a lot more when I was on maternity leave with my 2nd daughter, as I wanted to make things I needed but couldn’t find in the shops (or thought I could make better). This included things like a nice wet bag to keep all my baby essentials in, bibs for my dribbling baby (not in boring fabrics). I then started making these as presents for my friends who were all having babies and Pomelo Crafts was born. I now don’t just make things for babies, but other items as well….coin purses, Kindle cases, tote bags, phone cases.
How would you describe your style?
The tagline I always use is “funky yet practical products” which is true really. The majority of the items I make have some sort of practical use, but also look very pretty!
How long have you been making your craft items?
I’ve always liked sewing and doing crafty things, but I’ve been making the things I make now for just over a year.
Do you have a best seller? If so what is it?
It depends where I’m selling. If I’m at a baby-type fair, then my dribble bibs sell well. Otherwise, coin purses or phone cases are always popular.
What do you enjoy most about your craft?
I just really enjoy sewing and I love fabric!!! I could spend hours looking at different fabric, thinking about what I could make with it. I’m generally very busy with work and my kids, so it’s nice to get the sewing machine out in the evening and do something creative.
Do you take part in other craft events (fairs, open houses, markets etc…)?
I started doing a few baby fairs in the beginning and I do the odd craft fair when I can, but I’d love to do more. At the moment, I mainly sell things via Facebook.
What products/ items will you be selling at The Fairy Tale Fair?
Anything and everything that I can make in time before 18th August – dribble bibs, coin purses, kindle cases, nappy pouches & bags, drawstring bags, pencil cases, phone sleeves, make-up bags.
What are your plans/ ambitions for the future? Or have you already achieved them?
I’d like to make some new items that I haven’t made before….I’ve got a few ideas knocking around. I’d really love to do some more craft fairs and have more of an online presence as well.
Any other comments you wish to make:
Really looking forward to the Fairy Tale Fair. Hope it’s one of many….
