Today we meet Amy for the first time, who we can’t wait to have at Patcham this Saturday 16th November. Find out more ahead of the fair…
Please introduce yourself and your brand….
Hello, I am Amy. The Amyverse is my universe of calligraphy, illustration, cards and wedding stationery. The Amyverse is based in Shoreham-by-sea and has a unique and fun collection of greeting cards, prints and gifts.
I named by my business because it is my universe. If I do anything I give it 100% and I wanted my business name to represent my passion and dedication to what I do.
How would you describe your style and your creations?
My designs are a little insight into my personality, they are playful, silly and sarcastic. I absolutely adore calligraphy and it features heavily on all my designs.
Being eco-friendly is really important to me. As a small business, I take care to produce as little waste as possible. All my prints and greeting cards are printed on card made from 100% recycled materials. I love that waste can be turned into something new and beautiful. I have also proudly taken the ‘naked card pledge’. All my cards are sold plastic free without single use cellophane bags that can’t be recycled. Instead, each card is packaged in a pretty polka dot paper bag which can be reused or recycled. My prints are protected in special bags that are fully biodegradable and compostable.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
My favourite part of The Amyverse is getting to be creative all the time. Drawing has always been a huge part of my life and I love that I get to spend a lot of my day drawing and making lovely things. I makes me so happy and I am so grateful to be working on my dream. I love getting commissions for illustrations such as a first home or an engagement. It is wonderful to be chosen to create something for such an important milestone.
What can we expect to find on your stall at The Fairy Tale Fair Christmas Special at Patcham on November 16th? And are you looking forward to taking part?
I will be selling a range of calligraphy treats such as cards, baubles, notebooks, gift tags, prints and wrapping paper.
I will be selling my hand-lettered ceramic baubles and wood slice tree decorations. I will also be offering personalisations on the day so get thinking about what you want on your unique Christmas decoration. I’ll also be selling my illustrations and calligraphy prints, and again, I will be offering to add calligraphy messages to these.
I am also selling eco-friendly gift wrap and gift tags. This year I’ve created A3 sheets of calligraphy wrapping paper on brown kraft paper which is made from 100% recycled materials. Then to finish off your packages perfectly, I have recycled paper gift tags which can be personalised with any message of your choice in calligraphy.
This year I’ve designed a few different sets of Christmas cards and there is one for everyone. My favourite set is the boozy Christmas card pack which are full of cheeky puns to get you in the Christmas spirit (my Christmas spirit of choice is gin!). I’ve lived in Sussex since 2014 and I love being by the sea. For the Brighton lovers, I’ve created a set of Christmas illustrations of my three favourite Brighton landmarks: The Palace Pier, The Bandstand and Royal Pavilion. For the Grinch in your life I’ve made an anti-Christmas cards which are full of sarcasm such as It’s the most stressful time of the year and my acrostic poem card about all the worst things about Christmas. I’ve also made a set of cheeky and silly cards that guarantee giggles and finally there is a set of sensible calligraphy designs that are suitable to send to your grandparents etc. I will be adding calligraphy to the envelopes of my cards so that you can wow your loved ones with a really special card.
Do you have a best seller?
My calligraphy baubles have been a huge hit so far. I love seeing the unique messages that my customers request on their baubles and adding it in calligraphy. I love creating them and seeing how loved they are by my customers.
Do you have any plans or ambitions for the future?
also create bespoke wedding stationery and next year I will be working very hard on developing my wedding stationery suites. I would also love to offer calligraphy workshops as I would love to share my love of calligraphy. It’s not easy and takes lots of work and practising but it is so enjoyable and rewarding.
The Fairytale fair is my first ever craft fair and I am really looking forward to meeting everyone and selling my creations.
