Please introduce yourself and your brand….
I’m Louise, a busy mother of two with a full time job and a passion for retro childhood nostalgia that I indulge in through my beloved little online shop. I am a keen crafter and focus on making gifts and housewares that are unique, innovative and unusual.
How would you describe your style and your creations?
I’m inspired by anything that reminds me of my 80’s childhood. My little handmade Fairy Doors we inspired by Enid Blyton’s The Faraway Tree stories and I’ve developed these hand made doors to include little poem cards, teeny keys and a gift box, just as I’d have liked to have received as a gift myself when growing up! Detail and presentation is everything to me. My unique lampshades are all handmade using a mix of vintage or specially produced fabrics from across the world, with nods to fairy tales and childhood memories. I love retro prints that were so popular in the 70’s and 80’s and adore fairytale and make believe elements. I made my first shades after becoming bored with the typical ‘samey’ designs on the high street. I want lighting that flatters a decor, invited imagination and creates a positive mood. My range reflects this perfectly.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
I enjoy the combination of crafting and creation something from nothing. I love trawling antique fairs and second hand stores for old treasures that I can then bring to my customers through my shop, The Faraway Tree UK. The combination of creativity and retro finds makes my shop an eclectic and interesting proposition for any shopper, guaranteed to haves little unwise something for everyone!
What can we expect to find on your stall at So This is Christmas Worthing on December 6th? And are you looking forward to taking part?
A fabulous mix of beautiful lighting, fairytale novelties, vintage and retro toys, books and clothing. Of course no bedroom it garden would be complete without one of my little Fairy Doors, which are also commonly used by Santas Elves!! I can’t wait to meet the shoppers and fellow sellers at this years market! It’s going to be fab!!
Do you have any plans or ambitions for the future?
I’m looking forward to expanding my collections, offering a greater range and working on the hugely rewarding and totally bespoke orders my customers have come to appreciate! Beatles sheet music lampshade anyone?
Do you have a motto or inspirational quote?
Love what you do, do what you love!
