Today we meet The Retro Geek for the first time who will join us on March 17th at Worthing Charmandean. Find out more about her…
Please introduce yourself and your brand….
I’m Cara and with my little mascot Pippin I run The Retro Geek. I started out just making silly things I liked but couldn’t buy from other makers and it evolved from there.
How would you describe your style and your creations?
Someone once descried my style as “If Luna Lovegood was a swing dancing scifi nerd” and I guess it fits. Colourful, Nerdy and a little bit retro when it fits. I take a lot of inspiration from pop culture, art and of course all the nerdy TV shows and memes!
What do you enjoy most about your work?
It has to be seeing people fall in love with something I’ve made. I primarily make things that I think are cool, its nice to see other people agree.
What can we expect to find on your stall at The Fairy Tale Fair Easter Special in aid of St Barnabas at Worthing Charmandean on Saturday 17th March? And are you looking forward to taking part?
I’ve been having ALOT of fun with my badgemaker lately, so lots of badges for sure! I’ve also been working on some acrylic jewellery since Christmas and this will be their first outing so I’m super excited to take part.
Do you have a best seller?
Without a doubt my pencil earrings. I guess everyone finds themselves short of a pencil from time to time! I get a lot of people wanting mixed colour combinations too which is great fun to see going out.
Do you have any plans or ambitions for the future?
Well I think Pippin would like me to be able to give up the day job and spend all day with him! I guess my plans are more designs and maybe moving into things like Enamel badges that can’t be made by me. To see some of my designs roll off a production line and into peoples pockets would be kinda awesome.
Do you have a motto or inspirational quote?
I guess “why not”. I guess like a lot of creative people I get that self doubt and why bother attitude that comes with thinking people won’t appreciate what I create. Telling myself “why not” makes me challenge that inner nagging voice and just get on with it!
What part of Easter do you enjoy the most?
The Chocolate OBVIOUSLY!! Well, that and the incoming warm weather but after the snow we’ve had I think that might be further off than I hope!
How can we find out more about you?
