Today we catch up with one of our stall holders from our first festive fair of 2016 at Brighton Open Market. Dulcie, who is 9, and her friend Connie took part in their first ever craft fair selling Christmas cards featuring their illustrations and glitter tattoos which were very popular. Find out more about Dulcie’s first craft fair experience…
My name is Dulcie Copping-Tunstall, I am 9 and I live in Brighton. When I am not drawing you’ll find me dancing, with Connie or at school! I draw cute cards called Cuties. My best friends name is Connie Busby-Southwell, she is am 9 and she lives in Brighton. When she’s not drawing you’ll find her with me or at school! She draws cute cards called Cuties. Cuties have a unique design because of the eye, it’s simply a black oval with 3 eyelashes. They also always have 1 eye because the other is covered by hair, they also have a big and circler head! Also they are all girls and are all based on an animal (etc: Ruby the Reindeer)!
Why did you want to do the fairy tale fair?
Well, just seeing it every year and how it looked so fun and how every thing and how everyone there are so wonderful!
What did you sell?
We sold 3 card designs for £1: Rosie the rabbit (Connie drew), Phoebe the Patch snow dog (I drew) and Onchow the alacorn queen ( I drew)! We also sold glitter tattoos for 50p!
What was your favourite part of you day at the fair?
When we had a storm of adults and children wanting glitter tattoos!
How would you describe your style and your creations?
To be honest it changes depending the mood or type of the animal the cutie we are drawing is based on! For example it would be bubbly and bright if we were drawing a bunny, if we were drawing an owl it would be geeky, it would be lonely if we were drawing a snow dog and if we were drawing a lion angry and red!
What do you enjoy most about your work?
I think we both enjoy the prospect that were only 9 and on our first sale we made £48! We also love actually making up all the characters and drawing all the designs!
Do you have a bestseller?
Yes, but its sort of a tie between Rosie the Rabbit (Connie drew) and Phoebe the patch snow dog (I drew)! The fact that its patch snow dog its actually quite colourful and it is my favourite so far!
Do you have any plans for the future?
Not really because we are just thinking of making more characters but if possible then making them into collectors cards and maybe a catalogue!
Do you have a motto?
Kind of, it’s one of Taylor swifts lyric lines (the reason I a choosing this one is because I know all her songs back to front because I love her! Connie thinks I’m crazy!) “People are people and sometimes we change our minds”!
What do you like about Christmas?
Well, um…..EVERYTHING! Especially watching my cats hide behind the Christmas tree and watching Home Alone!
Thank you Claire and the Fairy-tale fair team for having us this year! Also a big thank you to our stall neighbours!
