Today we’re pleased to bring back our Makers Monday series for Spring 2022. And we start with the fab Amanda of Bowerbird Jewellery, find out more about her and her playful jewellery…
Please introduce yourself and your brand….
I’m Amanda and my business is called Bowerbird Jewellery! I design and create jewellery and accessories from my home studio in Cornwall. I’ve always been quite creative, trying all sorts of crafts when I was younger from Tie Dye to candle-making. I think I’ve maybe had an affinity for jewellery making from a young age, the first item of jewellery I made was at pre-school!
How would you describe your style and your products?
My style is fun, playful and bright; based in history, art movements, nature and science! I create a wide range of jewellery – from rings, brooches and pendants to statement necklaces, keyrings and earrings including studs, dangle and clip on – plus bracelets too and hair accessories.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
I love the challenge that using unusual or different materials in my work brings! I’m a huge Japanese decorative paper fan, so experimenting with ways in which to use it in jewellery (and make it durable) was such fun!
Do you have a best seller or favourite to make?
Bestellers? Well over Christmas my Glass bead and crystal Nutcracker soldier earrings and pendants were very popular! My perennial favourite to make and also a bestseller are my blue and red William Morris Strawberry Thief pendants!
What are your plans or ambitions for the future?
2022 is the year I really want to branch out into Wholesale! I would love to find suitable retail shops around the UK, that would LOVE to stock some of my quirky jewellery!
Sum up your brand in 3 words…
Quirky, vintage and nature-lover (can I get away with a hyphenated word?)
Do you have a motto or favourite quote for inspiration?
OOH that’s tricky – I have two:
“The best colour in the whole world is the colour that looks good on you” Coco Chanel
There are many quotes from William Morris that I love, this one I’ve recently found: “There is no square mile of earth’s inhabitable surface that is not beautiful in its own way, if we men will only abstain from wilfully destroying that beauty.” – William Morris
