Today we catch up with Naomi Sloman, who joins us this Sunday 4th December at Worthing Charmandean for our St Barnabas fair.
Please introduce yourself and your brand….
My name is Naomi and I am behind the imaginatively titled Naomi Sloman Illustration! I take on commissions and I make products for sale on Etsy, at markets and in shops.
How would you describe your style and your creations?
Animals feature a lot in my work. I especially enjoy drawing anthropomorphic animal characters. And I try to inject an element of narrative and gentle humour into most of my work.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
I love seeing ideas develop from concept through rough sketches and line drawings to final coloured illustrations. I often start off with the truly terrible rough pencil drawings – if people saw them I don’t think they would believe I was an artist!! But by the end of a project I have something I am really proud of (most of the time!).
What can we expect to find on your stall at So This is Christmas at The Charmandean Worthing on Sunday 4th December? And are you looking forward to taking part?
I can’t wait to be there. I love the atmosphere of Christmas markets. I’ll be selling greetings cards, prints, tea towels, mugs, notebooks and other products featuring my illustrations.
Do you have a best seller?
Last year I made polar bear Christmas tree decorations (a slight deviation from my usual drawings) and struggled to keep supply up with the demand! This year I started making them in the summer so I hopefully have enough.
Do you have any plans or ambitions for the future?
Next year I plan to launch a range of products for babies and young children under a new brand.
I will also be offering bespoke wedding stationery as a new product from Naomi Sloman Illustration.
Do you have a motto or inspirational quote?
I find inspiration in people and daily life rather than in mottos or inspirational quotes.
What part of Christmas do you enjoy the most?
I love the food and cooking – I make a pretty good Christmas pudding (thanks Delia!) and my mum’s Christmas dinner is legendary!
