Today we welcome another Fairy Tale Fair newbie! Ruth of Rare Folk. We are looking forward to having her and her beautiful handmade jewellery on August 15th at Brighton Open Market. Find out more about her…
Please introduce yourself and your brand….
Hello All !! Ruth @rare_folk here
How would you describe your style and your creations?
Rare Folk specialises in handmade jewellery that is laser cut from mixture of materials including wood, MDF and Perspex. As a lover of all things geometric and wildlife my designs combine the two elements. When making the shapes are laser cut first then sewn together with thread to form the piece adding colour, surface pattern and that handmade finish.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
Operating my laser cutter and watching it cut out all the different shapes I’ve drawn into my laptop… still amazes me everytime 🙂
Also the sewing with a cuppa close at hand.
What can we expect to find on your stall at The Fairy Tale Fair Brighton this Summer? And are you looking forward to taking part?
Canny wait! I live and work in Leicester so I’m very excited to visit Brighton, meet the people involved and being near the sea. I’ll be bringing with me a variety of Fashion Jewellery including brooches, earrings, necklaces & rings. Brooches include wildlife ones such as a bluetit, rabbit, fox & a robin. Others are a variety geometric forms & patterns.
Do you have any plans or ambitions for the future?
I gradually hope to work my way out of the midlands finding new stockists.
I also hope in the future to expand with a small bridal headwear range. I currently can offer this as a made to order package including their hairstyle for the big day, as I am also a hairdresser.
Do you have a motto or inspirational quote?
I love a good inspo quote I have a few pinned to my board in the studio here’s a couple-
Good things take time
Don’t be afraid to fail, be afraid not to try.
