Today we introduce Fairy Tale Fair newbie, ColourFaux Taxidermy, who we can’t wait to welcome on Sunday 3rd April at Worthing Charmandean, find out more about them…
Please introduce yourself and your brand….
I am Becky and I make faux taxidermy beasts under the name ColourFaux Taxidermy.
How would you describe your style and your creations?
I make my whimsical beasts in an array of colours and styles, and can also customise to any preference. I collect fabric offcuts from local upholsterers and hunt down discontinued fabric sample books, so the fabrics I use are beautiful quality, and I have a wide range in my collection.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
I love seeing each character emerge as I create them. They are all different, and the fabrics I use vary so much, so making each and every one is a new experience. I also very much enjoy finding new ways to customise them. Variety is the spice of life , and these certainly keep me on my toes.
What can we expect to find on your stall at The Fairy Tale Fair Easter Special on Sunday 3rd April at Worthing Charmandean? And are you looking forward to taking part?
I am excited to introduce my beasts to the Fairytale Fair. I’ll be bring as many of my current menagerie as can fit, so you can expect to see Lions and Tiger and – not Bears yet (they are coming soon), but a colourful and fantastical selection or woodland and exotic beasts, and even some from folklore.
Do you have a best seller?
The hares are my best seller.
Do you have any plans or ambitions for the future?
I started with 4 beasts (Roe deer, badger, fox and hare, and now I have 11 different beasts available. I intend to keep growing my menagerie – they are rather addictive to make. I’ve recently added a fully-body flying barn owl to the collection, complete with wings made from individually cut fabric feathers, and am intending to add more full-body birds.
I’ll be attending a few local craft fairs this year, as well as increasing my presence on social media. I also plan to add “make a hare” workshops.
Do you have a motto or inspirational quote?
My motto is “I can try”. 😊
