Today we introduce Victoria or Destai. She will join us this Sunday at Brighton Open Market. Find out more…
Please introduce yourself and your brand….
Hi, I’m Victoria Sol and I run Destai. I’ve been running my micro jewellery business for over 3 years now, and I focus primarily on chainmaille with a bit of occasional branching out into metal stamping and other fun things. “Destai” is a made-up word meaning “creative destiny”, but it also has a real world meaning; “awakened”. I figure the real world meaning signifies that I’ve woken up to my creative destiny!
How would you describe your style and your creations?
As mentioned, I focus primarily on chainmaille. My style is mainly elaborate chains and bands, made out of individual rings woven together in intricate patterns. This gives me a wealth of opportunities to create all kinds of jewellery and accessories, from clean and simple bracelets to massive choker necklaces, with tangents such as earrings shaped like Thor’s Hammer and extremely strong wallet chains that will probably outlast your grandchildren.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
My favourite part of my work is settling down with my pliers and a pile of rings, and going into the almost meditative state of weaving them together. Hours can pass easily, and I have to check my music playlist to see how long I’ve been at it, based on how many songs (or albums!) I’ve gone through.
What can we expect to find on your stall at The Fairy Tale Fair Brighton on December 11th at Brighton Open Market? And are you looking forward to taking part?
I’m so excited to take part in The Fairy Tale Fair! I was there last year as well and had an amazing time. This year I’m bringing some of the same style of pieces as before, but loads of news stuff as well. I have all kinds of jewellery for all kinds of people – big chains, small chains, statement pendants, dogtags, children’s bracelets, stretchy bracelets, keyrings for all tastes and loads more!
Do you have a best seller?
My best seller is the stainless steel bracelet cuff in the “Elfsheet” weave. My rainbow pieces are also very popular, I mean, who doesn’t love a rainbow?!
Do you have any plans or ambitions for the future?
My plan is to take over the world! Mwahahahahaha*cough*haha!
…Ok, but seriously, I’m hoping to grow my business to where people will hear my brand and know it. I want “Destai” to be synonymous with quality and good workmanship, and so far I think I’m doing a pretty good job.
Do you have a motto or inspirational quote?
“Don’t tell me the sky is the limit when there are footprints on the moon.”
What part of Christmas do you enjoy the most?
I enjoy the family time. Although I don’t exactly complain about the food either! For me, Christmas is about togetherness. If I can’t spend time with family then I’ll spend it with friends.
