Say Hello to… Steed Craft

Brighton, craftNo commentsOctober 29, 2014Claire

Today we introduce Steed Craft, who will be joining us at the Open Market and Racecourse advertising their Microfoundry- a lost casting system for jewellers. Find out more…

Please introduce yourself and your brand…..

Hello I am Quin a 43yr old Engineer from Coventry. I designed and make Microfoundry a lost wax casting system for jewellers enabling artists to create their designs themselves in precious metals (Silver, Gold, Brass Bronze).

Tell us a bit about your creations and how you make them….

The jobs I do are largely to inspire others and introduce new techniques though I seam to be making a lot of rings just now. (some are on the steedcraft you tube channel).

Once the lost wax casting process has been mastered the interesting bit is creating the wax pattern that will be replicated in metal. Waxes can be carved free hand, turned on lathes, copied from molds of original pieces, cast in molds made from clip art, cast in molds made by 3d printers etc etc

How long have you been making your creations?

Fortunately I have a marvellously enthusiastic eccentric metalworking genius for a dad who had me sand casting lead in my bedroom when I was 4 years old!

Do you have a best seller or most popular item?

The Microfoundry lost wax system is our most popular product as it contains all you need to get up and going pouring your own castings. The wax injector and vacuum table can be added later once you have some experience and tackle jobs that require them.

What do you enjoy most about your craft/ work?

Helping folk to feel confident in producing their own castings is a beautiful thing to do,. The 1 day course we run in Coventry is intense but when students leave with a silver charm they have created themselves from start to finish we all agree the day has been an enjoyable success.

Will you be selling some festive themed creations at The Fairy Tale Fair?

I am afraid not – however we are offering £50 off with all orders placed at the Fairy Tale Fairs.

What are your plans or ambitions for the future, or have you already achieved them?

We are a Dad and Lad team, I “the Lad” have just moved to Brighton so my aim is to set up a teaching workshop here in Brighton similar to our base in Coventry..

Describe what Christmas means to you in 5 words or less!:

Family Fun Food & Frollocks!

How can we find out more about you?
